Your mission
The Credit Underwriting Manager is responsible for leading merchant and partner credit underwriting and ongoing credit risk management across the acquiring portfolio. The role ensures a balanced approach between risk control, regulatory compliance, and commercial growth, with particular focus on high-risk merchant segments, partners and Payment Facilitators (PayFacs), and adherence to Ongoing Customer Due Diligence (OCDD) requirements.
Requirements
6–10+ years of experience in credit underwriting, merchant risk, or risk management within acquiring, fintech, or bankingDemonstrated experience underwriting partners and Payment Facilitators (PayFacs), including assessment of program controls, sub-merchant risk, and sponsor exposureProven experience assessing and managing merchants operating in high-risk verticals (e.g., travel, gaming, crypto, FX, adult, nutraceuticals, subscription models, marketplaces)Demonstrated experience applying risk mitigants such as reserves, limits, and enhanced monitoringBachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Business, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
ResponsibilitiesLead end-to-end credit underwriting for new and existing merchants, partners, and Payment Facilitators (PayFacs), including SMEs, enterprise clients, and high-risk verticalsAssess merchant, partner, and PayFac financials, settlement flows, transaction profiles, chargeback exposure, business models, and operational controlsConduct enhanced due diligence and credit assessments for high-risk merchants, partners, and PayFacs, considering regulatory, fraud, reputational, and operational risksEvaluate PayFac and partner programs, including sub-merchant onboarding controls, monitoring frameworks, and liability structuresDetermine and approve appropriate credit limits, rolling reserves, holdbacks, security deposits, and other risk mitigantsApprove, decline, or escalate underwriting decisions in line with the company’s risk appetite and delegated authorityEnsure underwriting decisions incorporate OCDD findings, including changes in ownership, business activity, financial condition, partner structure, or overall risk profileBenefits
Private Medical Insurance: Reimbursement for expenses related to private medical insurance (subject to approval).Pension Plan: Nuvei contributes a guaranteed 11%, and employees can add more through salary sacrifice.
