About the Role
As a Group Worker, you will work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to deliver structured group interventions and recovery-focused support to people experiencing substance misuse and related challenges. You will support individuals throughout their recovery journey, from initial engagement and assessment through to sustained recovery. Using evidence-based and person-centred approaches, you will help people improve their wellbeing, build resilience and develop the skills and support networks needed to achieve positive and lasting change.
What You’ll Do
• Develop, coordinate and deliver structured and open-access recovery groups. • Deliver psychosocial interventions using approaches such as Motivational Interviewing, CBT-informed practice, ITEP and MET. • Identify and assess individuals who would benefit from group interventions and ensure they are matched to appropriate programmes. • Complete triage, strengths-based assessments, risk assessments and recovery planning. • Manage a caseload, reviewing engagement, progress and treatment outcomes alongside the wider team. • Deliver group work covering areas such as substance misuse, trauma, resilience, relationships and behavioural change. • Encourage participation in group programmes and support individuals to remain engaged throughout their recovery. • Help service users access education, training, volunteering, employment and other opportunities that build recovery capital. • Work closely with partner agencies, community organisations, peer mentors, volunteers and other professionals. • Appropriately involve families, carers and significant others in the recovery process. • Identify and respond to safeguarding concerns in line with organisational procedures. • Maintain accurate and timely case records and contribute to monitoring and evaluation. • Work flexibly across service locations, including evenings and weekends where required. • Maintain professional boundaries and work within Waythrough’s clinical governance framework. • Promote equality, diversity and inclusion through a respectful, non-judgemental and person-centred approach.
What We’re Looking For
You will have an NVQ Level 3 in Health & Social Care or equivalent, alongside experience of working within substance misuse or a related service. A relevant qualification in areas such as substance misuse, counselling or social work would be desirable. You will also have:
• Strong communication and group facilitation skills. • Experience delivering structured group interventions. • The ability to engage, motivate and retain service users. • Knowledge of recovery models and harm-reduction approaches. • Experience completing assessments, risk assessments and recovery plans. • A good understanding of safeguarding, confidentiality and professional boundaries. • Experience of multi-agency and partnership working. • Knowledge of relevant best-practice frameworks, including NICE guidance. • Good organisational skills with the ability to manage and prioritise a varied workload. • Good IT skills, including Microsoft Office and case management systems. • Experience of the Freedom Programme or similar programmes would be desirable. • A commitment to continuous learning and professional development. • A compassionate, respectful and recovery-focused approach that reflects our values of Kindness, Courage and Respect.
