About this role

In 2020, G Mining Ventures (GMIN) was created to acquire direct ownership of projects and capitalize on the value uplift that successful mine development offers. In July 2024, GMIN has acquired the Oko West project. The Oko West Project is a new gold discovery in northwest Guyana. It is located south of the historical “Oko” gold district, some 95 km west of Georgetown.

To ensure the achievement of this large-scale project, G Mining Ventures is looking for an experienced and motivated individual to fill the position of:

Health & Safety Officer.

Health & Safety Strategy and Implementation:

• Develop, implement, and review health and safety policies, procedures, and management systems in line with company and regulatory standards.

• Ensure compliance with local, national, and international mining safety regulations and legislation.

Risk Assessment and Mitigation:

• Conduct comprehensive risk assessments to identify hazards, assess risks, and implement control measures.

• Regularly review and update risk management strategies.

Incident Management:

• Support in investigations of incidents, near-misses, and accidents to determine root causes.

• Prepare detailed reports and recommend corrective actions to prevent recurrence.

Auditing and Compliance:

• Conduct regular health and safety audits and inspections of mine sites, facilities, and equipment.

• Ensure proper documentation and reporting of safety metrics and compliance.

Training and Awareness:

• Deliver health and safety training programs for employees, contractors, and stakeholders.

• Promote a culture of safety awareness through campaigns, workshops, and toolbox talks.

Emergency Preparedness:

• Test emergency response plans, including evacuation procedures and crisis management strategies.

• Coordinate emergency drills and liaise with local emergency services.

Monitoring and Reporting:

• Monitor workplace conditions and worker behaviors to ensure adherence to safety standards.

Qualifications/Skills and Experience

* Degree In Occupational Health & Safety or related field.

* Certificate in health & Safety (NEBOSH or OSHA or Equivalent)

* At least 2-3 years in Health & Safety position within construction project/mining industry.

* Strong knowledge of relevant Health & Safety regulations and standards.

• Willingness to work in a remote location.

• Advanced computer skills including proficiency in Microsoft office.

• Office administration skills including document preparation and management

• Experience in managing staff scheduling

• Experience in conducting safety audits and inspections

• Knowledge of hazard identification and risk control

• Developed interpersonal skills.

• Good oral and written communication skills.

• Excellent decision making, problem solving and priority setting skills.

• Developed cultural awareness and sensitivity.

Working Conditions

• Work Schedule – 14 days on/7 days Off
