Cygnet Hospital Ealing is seeking an enthusiastic and motivated part-time / 24 hrs per week Hybrid Resident Medical Officer to join our friendly, experienced and supportive medical team.

Please note this is a one-year Fixed Term Contract.

Working hours:

The postholder will be working Monday to Friday with daytime clinical duties on Monday, Wednesday and Thursday covering both Sunrise Ward and New Dawn Ward (floating support).Participation in the local resident on-call rota:

Resident weekday on-call Monday, Wednesday and Thursday (5:00 pm 9:00 am).

Resident weekend on-call approximately two weekends in every four-week rota (Friday 5:00 pm Monday 9:00 am).This is an exciting opportunity to work across two highly specialised inpatient psychiatric, offering excellent exposure to complex psychiatry within a collaborative multidisciplinary environment.

The successful candidate will work across a (20 female beds):

Sunrise Ward (10 beds) is a specialist Eating Disorders ward providing assessment and treatment for adults with severe eating disorders requiring inpatient care.New Dawn Ward (9 beds) is a Tier 4 specialist Personality Disorder service delivering psychologically informed treatment for adults with complex emotional and relational difficulties.

Main duties of the job

The successful candidate will provide daytime medical cover across Sunrise Ward and New Dawn Ward on Mondays, Wednesdays and Thursdays (days to be agreed with the other two Speciality Doctors).

Key responsibilities include:

Undertaking psychiatric and physical health assessments (including, ECGs, Bloods, NG tubing, patient admissions, patient assessments, risk assessments, mental health assessments).Providing day-to-day medical management of inpatients with complex psychiatric and physical health needs.Monitoring and managing physical healthcare within psychiatric inpatient settings.Participating in ward rounds, multidisciplinary team meetings, CPA reviews and Mental Health Act processes.Liaising effectively with patients, families, GPs, acute hospitals, community mental health teams and other external agencies as appropriate.Maintaining accurate clinical documentation and contributing to clinical governance, auditing, and quality improvement activities.Resident On-Call Responsibilities

Unlike a traditional Resident Medical Officer post, this hybrid role combines autonomous daytime clinical responsibilities with resident on-call duties, providing a broad and varied clinical experience across two specialist services. Working closely with experienced Consultant Psychiatrists and multidisciplinary teams, the successful applicant will develop increasing clinical autonomy while receiving excellent clinical support and supervision.

The on-call rota is shared between two other experienced Speciality Doctors, ensuring continuity of care and mutual support. The on-all is flexibly arranged with the other doctors.

On calls are completed from home but the post holder would be required to come into the service as needed, so the ability to travel is essential.

We are looking for someone who

Holds full GMC registration with a licence to practise (MBBS or equivalent).

Has previous experience working in psychiatry.

Demonstrates excellent communication, organisational and clinical skills.

Enjoys working collaboratively within multidisciplinary teams.

Is committed to delivering compassionate, evidence-based, trauma-informed, and patient-centred care.

Has an interest in developing expertise within specialist inpatient psychiatry.
