About this role

Job summary

We are currently looking to recruit an enthusiastic and well-motivated Band 6 Occupational Therapist for the Occupational Therapy team at the Cavell Centre in Peterborough.

The Cavell Centre Occupational Therapy team provide OT assessments and intervention for those admitted to acute adult inpatient wards for mental health and learning disabilities.

As a Senior Occupational Therapist, you will deliver and develop specialist OT assessments and interventions. These will include occupation focused group work, sensory strategies, reablement goals, functional assessments and focussed individualised interventions. These interventions will be based on the core principles of therapeutic use of self and our foundational approach. You will display leadership skills and the ability to supervise colleagues to ensure outstanding clinical delivery.

The ideal candidate will have a strong team work ethic, sense of accountability and display a positive patient centred approach. This will be accompanied by an ability to work under pressure at times. In return we will provide the necessary support to ensure your development within your role. You will receive clinical supervision and operational manager from the Occupational Therapist Advanced Practitioner.

Main duties of the job

In partnership with the individual, theSeniorOccupationalTherapist maintains, restores, or creates a match between the abilities of the person, the demands of his or her activities and occupations, and the demands of the environmenttoimprove function andaccess to opportunities for participation in daily life.This is to be achieved through structuredand thoughtful goal setting. The post holder will demonstrate a high level of understanding of occupational therapymodels of practice, provide the skilful use of specialist assessments, advice and interventions to support the service user to engage in a meaningful activity, designed toincrease function. This will include providing specialist support, knowledge and advice to team members who have identified a service user's vocational needs. The post holder will work collaboratively with all disciplines as part of a multidisciplinary team to assure a high standard of care for patient/clients and their relatives/carers, under supervision of theOccupationalTherapistAdvanced Practitioner. The post holder willbe skilled in thefacilitation of sensory approaches to support service users with sensory modulation when alleviating extreme distress or supporting emotional regulation. The post holder will respect the individuality, values, cultural and religious diversity of clients and contribute to the provision of a service sensitive to these needs.

The post holder will lead on the provision of Occupational Therapy interventions underpinned by the Model of Human Occupation (MOHO) and the principles of recovery and person-centred care. The Senior Occupational Therapist will work under the supervision of the Occupational Therapist Advanced Practitioner. Apply a high level of understanding of the impact of mental, social, sensory, emotional, cognitive, psychological, and physical issues on occupational performance, providing occupational therapy interventions and adaptations to the service users social and physical environment. Work collaboratively with service users to create individualised, meaningful plans that support the achievement of Occupational Therapy goals. Ensure that all modification to OT intervention plans and assessments will involve the service user and where appropriate the carer; collaboratively identifying, pursuing and reviewing goals in the context of care planning. Promote equality of outcome for service users that reflect the individuality of their mental health need and those of ethnicity, gender, culture, physical health and age.

Person Specification

Education / Qualifications Essential

Minimum Bachelor level equivalent training in OT.

Desirable

Member of the British Association of Occupational Therapists.

Experience Essential

Experience and commitment to the principles of multi disciplinary and team working. Experience of a variety of innovative and person-centred Occupational Therapy interventions.

Desirable

Working with people with a range of mental health problems. Experience of the implementation of an improvement project related to OT intervention of service improvement.

Skills & Abilities Essential

Evidence of ongoing development of leadership skills. Ability to undertake risk assessments and implement risk management plans. To liaise with and establish close links with a range of people and professionals. Specialist knowledge of OT assessment, interventions and practice models relevant to the client group.

Physical Requirements Essential

May involve engagement in light activity such as sport, related to goals of the individual being worked with. Routine and regular use of computer.
