Job summary
We are looking for an organised, motivated and valuesdriven professional to join our Best Start Childrens Public Health Service as a Public Health Coordinator. This is a varied and rewarding role supporting the delivery of key public health programmes for children, young people and families across Nottingham City.
You will play a central role in keeping services running smoothly, coordinating projects, people and activity, and supporting service improvement so that the Best Start service continues to deliver highquality outcomes for local communities. Working closely with clinical leaders, partners and community groups, you will help turn plans into action, ensure priorities are met and support staff to feel confident, competent and well supported.
This role would suit someone who enjoys coordinating complex pieces of work, building positive relationships and making a tangible difference to population health. Main duties of the job
As Best Start Public Health Coordinator, you will coordinate daytoday activity that supports the effective delivery of childrens public health services across the city. You will organise and prioritise work across teams and projects, ensuring key programmes remain on track and aligned to service priorities. A key part of the role is working closely with clinical leaders, partners and community organisations to support service improvement and innovation, helping translate data, feedback and priorities into meaningful action.
You will support staff development by helping coordinate training and development activity, monitoring completion and identifying gaps that could impact quality or outcomes. Using performance information and feedback, you will contribute to monitoring service delivery, supporting audits and highlighting opportunities for improvement. The role requires strong organisation, communication and problemsolving skills, the ability to manage competing priorities, and a collaborative approach. You will also provide line management support, contribute to engagement activities and promote a positive, valuesbased culture focused on improving outcomes for children, young people and families.

Job Purpose
The post holder will:
Coordinate the delivery of key public health services to children, young people and their families, for example breastfeeding support and the National Child Measurement Programme.
Support the design and delivery of training and development programmes that ensure staff are able to provide expert public health advice and support to women and their families during the antenatal period and from birth to 19 years.
Dimensions
You will be part of the Best Start Childrens Public Health Service and you will work with clinical and administrative staff to support the delivery of the Healthy Child Programme to families and children and young people aged 0-19 years.
You will be responsible for coordinating the activities of members of the Childrens Public Health Service, including volunteers.
You will have knowledge of public health and health improvement, acquired through training.
You will be required to work in a cost effective manner.
You will work throughout Nottingham City.
You will be responsible for supporting the development and delivery of high quality public health training to Best Start Childrens staff and key stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities
Service coordination
You will coordinate and allocate work to staff, including volunteers, to ensure the delivery of key Public Health services for example, breastfeeding support to all new mothers and the National Child Measurement Programme.
You will work collegiately with Early Help and other partners to ensure the delivery of high quality childrens services throughout Nottingham City and across the 0 19 age range.
Staff training and development
You will work with Clinical Service Managers, Clinical Service Leads and Public Health Development Leads and others to identify and monitor training and development needs.
You will draw upon local and national data sources, for example, national and local policy initiatives, local health data, audit results and training needs analysis to support service leaders to source/develop and deliver training programmes for Best Start staff in public health areas relevant to the needs of children, young people and their families in Nottingham City, for example, obesity, nutrition, mental and sexual health.
You will take lead responsibility for sourcing and/or providing training to enable support staff and volunteers to deliver high quality, relevant support to breastfeeding mothers that meets local and national guidelines.
You will develop and maintain local information directories, for example, of trainers and training organisations.
You will provide staff with specialist public health and health improvement advice and guidance to enable them to deliver effective public health advice support and education to service users.
Performance monitoring
You will contribute to the development and upkeep of shared and local collections of health related data, information and services.
You will use SystmOne and other information systems, such as performance dashboards to gather, analyse and audit data to evaluate service performance and user satisfaction in order to inform actions for service improvements and training and development programmes.
You will assist with and participate in audit and research, including analysing data and producing short reports and you will promote and support the use of audit and research findings to inform service improvement.
Professional
You will maintain an up-to-date knowledge and understanding of evidence-based approaches that can be used to support of children, young people and families living in Nottingham City to address the public health and health improvement issues that are impacting on their lives.
You will participate in regular performance and development reviews.
You will undertake other duties as may be required for the delivery of an effective and efficient Childrens Public Health Service.
You will, at all times keep the safety and wellbeing of the child in mind and work within local safeguarding policies and procedures.

Qualifications Essential
Degree or equivalent in a business or admin field or equivalent experience
Desirable
Project management qualification, for eg PRINCE2 or similar level of knowledge and experience
Skills & Attributes Essential
An understanding and evidence of: Public health initiatives, and the breadth of the Healthy Child Programme. Your understanding of the needs of people from different groups and how this may impact access to information and services. Working with the local community and how to engage with them, especially hard to reach groups which will inform the ongoing development of the service. Have an ability to: Communicate effectively with staff and partner agencies to facilitate service improvement. Work on own initiative and as part of a wider skill mix team.
Desirable
An understanding of wider public health agenda and how public health issues impact on children, young people and their families in Nottingham City. An ability to draw on research and audit evidence and use it to design training to support others. Evidence of ongoing CPD around public health promotion.
Experience Essential
Experience of working in a project management role. Experience of supporting key public health services/initiatives. Experience of coordinating a team and allocating work appropriately to enable a safe and effective service. Experience of delivering work based around specific plans and targets and working in a cost effective manner. Experience of assisting with audits and research to inform service improvement. Experience of using SystmOne and other information systems to monitor and measure and of using reporting systems which include client identifiable information. Experience of the coordination of a skill mix team. Able to use Microsoft IT software, including MS Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel Supporting change management Experience of using negotiating skills and empathy to support staff who may present as distressed when contentious information and advice is shared at staff forums.
Desirable
Experience of working collegiately to encourage and co-ordinate work with a range of partners and organisations. Experience of working in a healthcare setting. Additional Criteria Essential
All appointments are subject to satisfactory occupational health clearance. Ability and willingness to travel regularly between locations. Ability and willingness to be flexible over working hours, within the core service hours of 8:30 5:00 and working at other sites as and when required to meet the needs of the service.
