SUMMARY: The job of Substitute Teacher was established for the purpose of performing instructional and classroom management processes for teachers who are absent for a day or longer periods of time. Their duties include taking attendance, explaining homework, and maintaining classroom management and cleanliness. RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES: Implement and teach lesson plans and instructions as directed by the absent teacher, or consult with principal or other responsible stuff if lesson plan is not provided Maintain a clean, respectful, and orderly classroom, and follow classroom and school procedures as directed by the school Leaves notes or completes a Substitute Teacher Report Form for the regular teacher at the end of the teaching day Communicate in a friendly and positive manner towards parents, students and administrators Keep records on attendance, accidents and incidents Protects students, equipment, materials and facilities Assisting in upholding and enforcing school rules, administrative regulations and school board policies Other responsibilities as directed by the principal MINIMUM EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE AND REQUIREMENTS: Associates Degree or equivalent semester hours (48) to meet qualified status. Criminal Record Check Health Examination is required KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Prepare by knowing what is expected of you and how to handle the vast complexities of the classroom. Check with each school and know what time they expect you to arrive and arrive early Adapt to the various changes you will encounter Know the district's dress code and adhere accordingly Read through plans thoroughly and make sure you familiarize yourself with the class schedules, fire drill procedures, lockdown and emergency protocol
Follow through with Teacher's Sub Plan and execute them Look for those students who need extra assistance Maintain good classroom management skills Be creative and be prepared for the unexpected Keep accurate records and leave the classroom in top notch condition Effectively Communicate with students and staff Treat students and staff with utmost respect and dignity PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand, walk, sit, talk and listen. The employee is occasionally required to use hands to fingers, handle, or feel: reach with hands and arms; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds or more at times.
