About this role

Job Description Exceptional Children's Teacher Assistant General Definition of Work Assisting the lead EC teacher by supervising one or more children perform assigned tasks in the EC classroom and/or while they attend general ed classroooms. This position requires four hours of work per day. Qualification Requirements Experience working with children with special needs and behavior management Specialized training preferred but not required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Special Education Frameworks: Basic understanding of IEP (Individualized Education Program) goals, modified curricula, and learning accommodations. Child Development & Neurodiversity: Familiarity with developmental delays, Autism Spectrum conditions, sensory processing differences, and behavioral challenges. Behavior Management: Understanding of Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) and basic de-escalation techniques. Privacy & Compliance: Awareness of FERPA regulations regarding confidential student data, health records, and academic files. Behavioral & Care Support: Proficiency in applying visual schedules, sensory breaks, and assisting with daily living skills (e.g., toileting, personal care, or mobility assistance if required). Clear Communication: Effective verbal and written communication with lead teachers, speech/occupational therapists, and administrators. Emotional Resilience: Ability to remain calm, patient, and level-headed during high-stress situations or severe behavioral disruptions. Physical Capability: Ability to bend, kneel, lift, and move quickly to ensure student safety. Team Collaboration: Ability to take direction from lead teachers and specialists while working flexibly in a fast-paced classroom environment. Rapport Building: Ability to foster encouraging, respectful, and secure relationships with neurodiverse learners.
