Wages: $22.02-27.17/hour, includes PERA contributions; Hours are documented on monthly timesheets. Supervisor: BOCES Special Education Coordinator Job Description: The Out-of-School-Time Special Education Support position promotes the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional growth of students with disabilities in grades K–12. Working under the direction of the BOCES Special Education Coordinator and in collaboration with Out-of-School-Time staff, this position provides direct student support, implements accommodations and behavior plans, reinforces instruction aligned with students' Individualized Education Program (IEP) goals, and helps maintain a positive, inclusive environment where all students can succeed. Job Calendar:
• After-school programming is held Monday through Thursday from 3:30–6:00 p.m. on days when school is in session.
• Full-day programming is held from 8:00 a.m.–3:30 p.m. on most Fridays during the school year.
• Project Dream's 2026–2027 out-of-school-time programming runs from August 17, 2026, through June 3, 2027.
• This position may be shared among multiple employees if one person is unavailable to work all scheduled shifts.
Qualifications:
• High school diploma or GED required.
• Must successfully complete all background checks required by District policy and be authorized to work in the United States.
• Bilingual proficiency in English and Spanish preferred.
• Experience working with students with a variety of disabilities is preferred.
• Experience in elementary, secondary, or special education is preferred.
• Must be comfortable responding to students' medical needs, following established medical protocols, and remaining calm under pressure.
Responsibilities:
• Work one-on-one or in small groups with student(s) with special needs, in out-of-school time settings
• Maximize participation time, minimizing interruptions and activities non-related to participation
• Complete assigned tasks as given by supervisor and/or staff
• Observe and document student performance when requested
• Monitor student progress on goals according to supervisor/special education teacher direction or IEP
• Reinforce subjects/behaviors that have been taught, across settings
• Assist out-of-school time staff in maintaining the activity environment
• Helping teach and model student expectations and rules
• Support students when in crisis using de-escalation strategies (CPI, sensory interventions)
• Maintain a positive attitude, behavior and language towards students at all times
• Provide clear and consistent consequences for inappropriate behavior; implement behavior plans
• Provide appropriate modeling for students
• Work with students with sensory/processing disorders requiring competencies in patience, flexibility and consistency
• Attend medical trainings with the school nurse and provide supervision to students with medical concerns as necessary
• Follow all medical and behavioral escalation paths to seek help when appropriate
• Contact out-of-school time administrators with behavior issues, as needed
• Adhere to all LCSD policies and procedures (including, but not limited to, attendance, conduct, staff-student relations, confidentiality and professionalism)
