Description Two vacancies exist for a Literacy Coach - Two Levels for the Norristown Area School District. (1) Middle School level (1) High School level * Sign On Bonus (In addition to Salary): $3,000 Description: The Literacy Coach is responsible for leading PLC's, for modeling best literacy practice lessons, for analyzing student and school-wide data and for providing staff development. Qualifications:
• Master's degree in education
• Valid and Active PDE Teaching Certification; reading specialist certification preferred
• Prior training in Structured Literacy from a PDE-approved provider (See Act 47)
• Five years of full-time teaching experience with demonstrated success specific to reading/English Language Arts.
• Professional development experience which has involved adult learning
• In-depth knowledge of reading processes, acquisition, assessment, and instruction aligned to the Science of Reading.
• Thorough knowledge of the range of effective instructional methods, materials, and practices that can be used at various grade levels
• Thorough knowledge and understanding of the full spectrum of differentiated instruction processes designed to meet the needs of all students including special education, gifted and multilingual learners.
• Ability to plan, establish priorities and implement instructional activities for maximum effectiveness.
• Ability to develop and deliver professional development presentations for teachers, administrators, parents and community groups.
• Ability to model and demonstrate how each component of a comprehensive literacy framework provides a structure for teaching, practicing, and assessing the skills and strategies of effective reading and writing.
• Ability to assess levels of student achievement effectively, analyze test results, and prescribe actions for improvement.
• Original certificates of clearance from the State Police, Child Abuse Registry, and PDE FBI.
• Bilingual in Spanish Preferred
Duties & Job Responsibilities: Instruction:
• Provides ongoing coaching in support for instructors and leaders as outlined in the district coaching manual.
• Models and demonstrates how to teach literacy.
• Models and demonstrates the use of instructional strategies appropriate for teaching students from diverse backgrounds with different learning styles and special needs.
• Works collaboratively with classroom teachers to align instruction to ensure that teaching is congruent with district goals and the instructional framework, is of high quality, researched-based and designed to meet the needs of all students.
• Collaborates with, and articulates district-wide literacy plans and school-wide literacy plans to teachers, parents, and other specialized personnel
• Provides instructional guidance to aides, volunteer tutors, or paraprofessionals who work in the classroom to assist the classroom teacher in meeting the needs of all students.
• Provides leadership and support in teaching and integrating literacy skills in all content areas
Assessment:
• Models and demonstrates for teachers how to administer and analyze various ELA/literacy assessments.
• Interprets data, including but not limited to standardized and other test results, for diagnosis, instructional planning and program evaluation.
• Collaborates with classroom teachers in the interpretation of literacy progress monitoring and diagnostic assessments.
• Supports the implementation of an assessment plan to systematically collect and analyze data that informs instruction and documents learning and growth.
Leadership:
• Facilitates a culture of reflective practice
• Participate and facilitate relevant professional development focused on literacy
• Serves as a member of the ATSI/CSI Implementation teams when appropriate
• Participates in district meetings and MCIU meetings related to coaching and/or literacy.
• Supports the development of curriculum maps, and district plans based on district and state instructional requirements, student profiles, and instructional priorities.
• Works as a member of the school support team to ensure that every teacher is providing rigorous instruction to meet the needs of all students.
• Works with colleagues to plan, prepare and implement new curriculum projects and initiatives.
• Serves as a resource to other specialized personnel by serving on instructional support teams.
• Supports teachers and administrators in becoming more knowledgeable about the teaching of literacy.
• Serves as a resource to promote parental understanding and support for students' literacy goals.
