About this role

PLEASE NOTE: This is a provisional competitive Civil Service position. The selected candidate must be currently appointed to a Competitive Family Center Support Coordinator position or will be hired provisionally and be required to take the next scheduled Family Center Support Coordinator test and be reachable on that list. 10 months per year Initial hours of assignment: 11:30am – 6:30pm DISTINGUISHING FEATURES OF THE CLASS: The work involves responsibility for creating inclusive, equitable services and programs and promoting a welcoming and safe atmosphere in which unique identities and perspectives are expected, respected, and supported at all levels within a suburban public school district. The incumbent serves as a liaison between families, the community, and schools to reduce barriers to student learning and support the mission of the school district, and leads and oversees the day-to-day operations and expansion of the Family Support Center. Work is performed under direct supervision of the Assistant Superintendent of Student Services, Director of Student Services, or another higher-level Administrator. Supervision is not a function of this position, but this position may provide work guidance as appropriate. Does related work as required. TYPICAL WORK ACTIVITIES:

• Plans, develops, and implements policies, procedures, and objectives for the Family Support Center;

• Coordinates home instruction, instructional and connection services provided to district students in grades 5-12; Collaborates with families and school personnel to construct reentry plans for a smooth transition back to school;

• Coordinates and facilitates community offerings to ensure inclusive and accessible services, holistic wellness programs,

• access to resources and referrals, community engagement, education and a safe space for culturally sensitive and trauma- informed support;

• Coordinates on-demand crisis supports if needed;

• Consults and supports the school personnel regarding student and family issues; Collects data and reports on Center activities as directed;

• Participates in and attends professional development opportunities designed to grow the mission of the Center;

• Promotes a comprehensive awareness program to ensure that the public is familiar with the Center's responsibilities and services;

• Organizes the Center in a manner that will ensure accessibility to families; Provides oversight to the district's food pantry;

• Ensures compliance with all legal expectations communicated through federal and state laws, administrative procedures,

• regulations and school board policies;

• Plans and executes training activities for staff, faculty and families;

• Participates in regional networking and training opportunities with other family support centers in Western New York; Maintains ongoing communication with all other area service agencies and serves as liaison for community agencies and service providers;

• Develops additional partnerships and resources as needed by the community; Coordinates and assists in staff selection;

• Adheres to proper accounting procedures in purchasing, bookkeeping and budgeting; Seeks and procures donations and grant funding to ensure operational needs are met.

FULL PERFORMANCE KNOWLEDGES, SKILLS, ABILITIES AND PERSONAL CHARACTERISTICS: Good knowledge of techniques used to build strong, trusting relationships with children, youth and community members; good knowledge of techniques involved in creating and nurturing positive relationships with school leadership and staff; good knowledge of techniques to coordinate, promote and organize school and community related programs; good knowledge of budgeting, bookkeeping and purchasing practices; grant writing skills; ability to research and utilize community resources; ability to work independently; ability to direct the work of volunteers; ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing; ability to collect and interpret data and write reports; ability to effectively interact and communicate with people of varying backgrounds and cultures; ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team; ability to develop and maintain effective working relationships with a diverse constituency; compassionate understanding of the social, personal and economic difficulties faced by families: tact; initiative; capable of performing the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodation. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

• Possession of a Bachelor's degree* in Human Development and Family Studies, Education, Social Work or closely related field and two (2) years of experience working with adolescents, young adults and families;

• Possession of an Associate's degree* in Human Development and Family Studies, Education, Social Work or closely related field and four (4) years of experience working with adolescents, young adults and families;

• Graduation from high school or possession of a high school equivalency diploma and six (6) years of experience working with adolescents, young adults and families.
