Spartanburg County School District Two JOB DESCRIPTION TITLE: Transportation Specialist FLSA: Non-Exempt Contract Days =240 Salary Scale = Administrative Scale Group 10 (Begining Salary = $43,672 - Median Salary = $62,632) GENERAL SUMMARY Under general supervision, assist the Director of Transportation in supporting the work of transportation services within the school district. The employee helps in the management of the daily operations of the school transportation program. The job was established for the purpose of communicating effectively with school administrators, parents, other district departments, transportation personnel and district stakeholders in order to establish bus routes and stops; resolving district transportation issues; arranging transportation for special events; investigation of transportation concerns relative to students pick up locations and routing. The employee is expected to resolve most problems and to confer with the Director of Transportation on problems of policy. This position reports to the Director of Transportation. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

• Operates Traversa Student Transportation Software.

• Evaluates, enters, and maintains bus routes using the district's Traversa software program (e.g. student routing, bus stops, clock schedules, route times etc.) for the purpose of determining bus routes in conformance with school policies while complying with mandated state regulations.

• Assists with software issues in cooperation with SDE's transportation office and software vendor's help desk.

• Effectively communicates with drivers, administrators, special education department, school staff, parents and other stakeholders (e.g. reviewing route maps, responding to inquiries, etc.) for the purpose of assisting with route related problems.

• Ensures integrity of student, driver, bus and route data.

• Assists with reports as required by the State Department of Education and/or Department of Transportation.

• Participates in a variety of activities (e.g. meetings, training, etc.) for the purpose of conveying and/or gathering information required to keeping all stakeholders informed of transportation updates, delays or pending changes.

• Review and monitor updates from the Traversa software program.

• Maintain current transportation information for Special Services, 4K and other specialized bus routes. As needed, offer transportation solutions for Special Services routes.

• Maintain transportation records for federal and state audit inspections.

• Coordinate activity buses with schools as assigned by the director.

• Any other duties and responsibilities as assigned by Transportation Director.

JOB SPECIFICATIONS Education and Experience:

• A high school diploma or higher is required.

• Prior transportation experience required.

• Experience in school transportation or bus routing preferred.

• Valid SC Driver's license required.

Preferred Qualifications:

• CDL Class B with P and S endorsements or must be willing to obtain within 1 year of employment.

Knowledge/Skills/Effort:

• Strong oral and written communication skills

• Strong computer skills beyond basic Word, Excel and PowerPoint execution

• Ability to manipulate and use Comma Separated Value (CSV) spreadsheet files and other database content

• Ability to provide corrective feedback

• Ability to communicate effectively with parents and establish and maintain positive public relations with stakeholder

• Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with school staffs, bus drivers, and district office staff

• Ability to gather and analyze data

• Ability to compile and summarize information

• Ability to prioritize and schedule variable work

• Ability to learn, interpret, and explain policies and regulations

• Knowledge of general office practices

Working Conditions:

• Work is generally performed in an office requiring the frequent use of communication equipment and computers. Other duties may be performed in a garage environment involving noise, dirt and dust, odors, fumes, hazardous materials or situations. This position also requires some travel around the district.

• Performing the job duties of this position may require the movement/lifting of items weighing up to 50. In addition, the job may require performing the following physical demands: some lifting, carrying, bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling and sitting.
