Job SummaryThis position is part of the Southwestern Indian Polytechnic Institute, Bureau of Indian Education (BIE), Department of the Interior (DOI). As a Extension CEU Director to the goals and objectives of SIPI through grant writing, planning, delivering, reporting, training and evaluating research-based culturally relevant extension and continuing education programming related to agriculture, natural resources, workforce development and community development for tribal communities.
QualificationsApplicants must meet the qualification requirements contained in the OPM Standards. For this position, they are listed below. BASIC REQUIREMENTS: A. Degree: that included or was supplemented by major study in education or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position. - OR - B. Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in education, or in a subject-matter field appropriate to the position, plus appropriate experience or additional course work that provided knowledge comparable to that normally acquired through the successful completion of the 4-year course of study described in A above. In addition to meeting the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the following Minimum Qualifications requirements: SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been equivalent to at least the next lower grade level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. GS-12: One (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-11 grade level in the federal service. Examples include designs, delivers, and evaluates continuing education and workforce training programs; Manages budgets, grants, agreements, and other resources that support program operations; Identifies workforce and community training needs and creates relevant education and training solutions; Coordinates instructors, subject-matter experts, facilities, technology, and schedules to ensure smooth program delivery; Tracks program results, participant outcomes, and stakeholder feedback to improve future offerings; Builds and maintains partnerships with Tribal governments, agencies, schools, businesses, and community organizations; Advises leadership on program development, resource needs, partnerships, and strategic direction. Major DutiesAs an Education Specialist (Extension CEU Director), GS-1701-12, your typical work assignments may include the following under supervision: Designs and delivers, appropriate educational trainings to engage tribal members, families, and communities that provide experiential learning opportunities using innovative technologies. Designs and delivers professional development both internally and external and evaluates and build customized training and educational programs based on scholarly/scientific theory and research. Coordinates faculty and instructor engagement relevant to course offerings of continuing education (CEU). Evaluates and assesses program relevant to participation, enrollment and completion. Manages program budget including reimbursable funds generated for operation, and secures external funding such as grants, to support and expand educational programming. Collaborates with the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) agencies, county environmental and land management services, agricultural and natural resources professional organizations to provide educational programs relevant to the county. Partners with internal and external groups, especially tribal communities, and individuals to exchange information, share resources, and engage in joint activities for the purpose of creating and conducting extension and continuing education workshops aimed at tribal members in areas targeted by SIPI and as outlined in the USDA-NIFA grant.
