Job SummaryThe purpose of this position is to operate patient transport vehicles, including emergency vehicles, patient transport vans/buses, and other types of transport vehicles that are capable of carrying up to 8 or more passengers to and from VA Medical Center facilities, private healthcare facilities, and other private sector areas such as, patient homes, railway, bus stations and airports. Incumbent drives predetermined and/or scheduled routes or special runs.

Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Federal Wage System Qualification Standards. DRIVER'S LICENSE: The WG-06 Motor Vehicle Operator position requires a valid Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger endorsement. Note: We cannot accept photographs, therefor; do not submit a copy of your license with your application package. If an interview is requested, you will be required to provide a copy of your current, valid state issued driver's license. SCREEN-OUT ELEMENT: Your qualifications will first be evaluated against the prescribed screen out element, which usually appears as question 1 in the on-line questionnaire. Those applicants who appear to possess at least the minimal acceptable qualification requirement are considered for further rating; those who do not are rated ineligible and are eliminated. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Note: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Physical Requirements: Physical efforts are required in bending, reaching, turning, or moving during the operation of foot and hand controls, handling of objects up to 50 pounds and the occasional handling of objects weighing over 100 pounds while loading and unloading cargo, able to drive for long periods and long distances, and exposure to inclement weather conditions.
Major DutiesMajor duties and responsibilities include: Operates gasoline or diesel-powered vehicles with a typical gross weight of 22,000 to 32,000 pounds. Operates other vehicles and performs other tasks as assigned by the Fleet Manager/Operations Supervisor. Loading and unloading patients and medical supplies. Assists patients to their scheduled destinations and remains with patient; if necessary. Signs for certified mail and patient belongings, and delivers to the appropriate officials. Responsible for ensuring all government, state, and local traffic laws regulations are obeyed. Updates travel logs on GSA vehicles that are used after each trip. Cleans and washes vehicles, checks tire pressure and inflates as necessary, and checks liquid levels such as, oil and gas etc. Possessing Commercial Driver's License (CDL) with passenger endorsement is required for the position.
