Ability to perform journey-level wood crafting without more than normal supervision to include: Constructing, altering, repairing, and modifying building items and structures (e.g., wood and metal stud wall framework, suspended ceilings, doors, door frames, finished paneling, windows, countertops); with accuracy, proper spacing, and precise fit to ensure structural soundness and quality appearance; and Planning and laying out work from specifications, blueprints, rough sketches, and verbal instructions.
Major DutiesTour of Duty: 4:45 a.m. – 1:15 p.m. or 7:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. Monday - Friday The Wood Crafter performs a wide range of carpentry projects in support of the House Office Buildings (HOB). Note: This is a career ladder position requiring the selectee to perform progressively more complex duties and responsibilities leading to the full performance level. Duties include, but are not limited to: Make and repair high grade wooden items such as cabinetry, furniture and decorative woodwork. Select, cut, turn, shape, join, bond, fit, assemble and decorate wooden materials and parts using a variety of hand and power woodworking tools, machines and techniques to create superior and structurally reliable woodwork which requires exact fitting and close weight, pressure and size tolerances. Use a wide knowledge of wood supplies and precision woodworking methods to plan and lay out work from specifications, blueprints, rough sketches and verbal instructions, taking into consideration the tooling, durability, cost, strength and appearance characteristics of a variety of softwoods, hardwoods, plywood, veneers and wood substitutes for projects. Perform routine maintenance on equipment, including lubricating machines, changing and sharpening saw blades and adjusting drive belt tensions. Utilize specialized maintenance management software (TMA or other) to manage, update and close out work orders.
