Basic Requirement for Health Technician (Otolaryngology): Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes assisting with otolaryngologic operative or diagnostic procedures; obtaining and documenting patient information related to examinations or treatments; preparing examination rooms (e.g. instruments, supplies, and equipment for specialized medical procedures.) This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.
Major DutiesProvides specialized clinical and technical support to Otolaryngology physicians across both inpatient and outpatient care settings.Manages the patient intake process by interviewing patients to document their chief complaints and symptoms and obtain vital signs.Assists Otolaryngology Medical Officers during a variety of specialized treatments, surgical procedures, and tests.Assists in pre-operative evaluation and post-operative care of patientsPrepares and arranges sterile surgical instruments for general and specialized ear, nose, and throat (ENT) procedures.Performs minor procedures under direct supervision of the doctor such as irrigating patients' ear to remove earwax buildup or administering prescribed medications.
