Job SummaryAbout the Position: This position is located in the Brooke Army Medical Center, Directorate of Surgery, Orthopedic Surgery, Fort Sam Houston, Texas. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation under Direct Hire for Certain Personnel of the Department of Defense.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes designing, fabricating, fitting or repairing orthotic devices. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06).
Major DutiesFabricate and fits brace or appliance to patient and makes adjustments and modifications required to meet desires of doctor and needs of patient.Uses various machines, tools and equipment, such as drill press, band saw, metal grinders, leather cutters, sewing machines, and hand tools, to perform functions.Make patterns, impressions, and molds to fabricate orthotic devices, utilizing a variety of materials such as plastic, aluminum, leather, resins, korex, synthetic fabrics and neoprene.Receive prescriptions from physicians for all types of orthotic braces and appliances ranging from simple arm and hand braces.
