Job SummaryThis National Guard position is for a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC, Position Description Number D1194000, within the ((ALL) FMS-CSMS-UTES SHOPS)) of the New Jersey National Guard. This vacancy announcement is a Title 32, Excepted Service position.. The purpose of this position is to perform maintenance, repair, troubleshooting, inspection, and/or overhaul of a variety of combat, tactical, commercial, and special purpose vehicles and equipment.
QualificationsGENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training which demonstrates knowledge of equipment to be able to do routine jobs, preventative maintenance, use of common tools, and equipment. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Must have at least 12 months of specialized experience or training in the following areas: Diagnosing, repairing, and modifying complex vehicles Removing, adjusting, replacing, cleaning, and installing a variety of parts, components, and accessories Knowledge of diagnostic equipment Demonstrating an understanding of the makeup and operation of the various individual systems maintained and their interrelationships Solving complex maintenance and repair problems Evaluating work performed on vehicles, equipment, and systems
Major DutiesAs a SURFACE MAINTENANCE MECHANIC, WG-5801-10, you will: Troubleshoot, perform maintenance, and major repairs on heavy-duty mobile equipment Troubleshoot equipment and diagnose the cause of mechanical failures Troubleshoots equipment and diagnoses the cause of mechanical failures by means of visual and auditory checks and/or uses test equipment such as engine analyzers, compression testers, voltmeters, ohmmeters, pressure gauges, and computer diagnostic tools Independently performs repairs and maintenance functions in remote locations that can be accomplished by removing, cleaning, reinstalling, or replacing defective parts of components and systems such as injectors, leaking wheel cylinders, corroded mufflers, fuel tanks, brake cylinders and worn brake shoes, voltage regulators, generators, injector pumps, and fuel pumps. Remove and disassemble engines Independently perform repairs and maintenance functions in remote locations Conduct readiness and inspections on vehicles Assists in the maintenance of production reports and records, and makes recommendations to the supervisor. Performs other duties as assignedRequirementsAreas of Consideration: All New Jersey National Guard members (M-Day, Traditional, and Drill-Status Guardsmen) Individuals eligible for membership in the New Jersey ARMY National Guard Military Grades: E-2 to E-6 Title 32 Dual-Status Positions: Compatible Military Assignments Appointments may require the selected candidate to be assigned to a *military unit* compatible with the full-time Military Technician (Dual Status) position. *Military Unit* -- The unit by which the individual is employed as a Military Technician (Dual Status) employee; or a unit that the individual is employed as a Military Technician (Dual Status) employee to support.
