Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of an Materials Handler (Forklift Operator/Motor Vehicle Operator) without more than normal supervision to include: 1) Receiving, unloading and processing incoming shipments; and 2) Performing warehouse inventories. *Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. Ability To Do The Work Of The position Without More Than Normal Supervision Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. Dexterity and Safety Knowledge of Materials Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Work Practices (includes keeping things neat, clean, and in order) PHYSICAL EFFORT: Required to stand on hard surfaces for extended periods of time, and to bend, stoop, and work in tiring and sometimes uncomfortable positions. May be required to work at a rapid pace for long periods of time. Lifts and carries items that weight up to 18 kilograms (40 pounds). Heavier items are moved with weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers. Moderate physical effort is used in operating forklift hand and foot controls while driving, turning, starting, and stopping the forklift truck and raising, lowering, and tilting loads being moved. Must meet all physical requirements to work in confined areas while reaching/pulling/ placing stocks in storage racks in awkward positions. WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is performed both inside and outside in areas that may be hot, damp, cold, drafty, or poorly lighted. Outside work will expose the employee to all types of weather conditions. Materials handlers are regularly exposed to the possibility of cuts, scrapes, bruises, abrasions, falls, and injury from falling stock, or mechanized work areas. May handle boxes that contain hazardous materials. Subject to injury while operating forklift or from mechanical conveyor systems. Employee may be required to wear safety equipment, which is often hot and uncomfortable. Must meet all physical requirements to work in confined areas while reaching/pulling/placing stocks in racks in awkward positions.
Major DutiesReceives, unloads, and processes incoming shipments of bulk and bin materials and equipment.Reports overages, shortages, or damaged items in accordance with established procedures.Unpacks and breaks-down shipments as required and stocks in designated areas.Conducts warehouse inventories which includes maintaining tally lists during counting operations.Operates government vehicles from 1.5 to 5 ton capacity to pick-up and deliver supplies and equipment.Operates electric, gasoline, or diesel powered forklift truck in order to lift loads weighing under 10,000 pounds.
