Job SummaryAbout the Position: This is a Medical Records Technician (Office Automation) position in Patient Administration Records, Bassett Army Community Hospital, Fort Wainwright, Alaska. This is a Direct Hire Solicitation Federal employees in Alaska are currently entitled to receive a 1.49% Cost of Living Allowance (COLA) in addition to the base salary. This is subject to change.

QualificationsWho May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes utilizing various office automated systems and software to create and manipulate documents; composing and processing correspondence for medical record requests; and reviewing patient's medical records. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). Proficiency Required: This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted.

Major DutiesProcess requests for information applicable to patient's records such as medical histories, x-rays, laboratory and radiographic reports, pathological reports, clinical records and related data.Research and extract required information from hospital inpatient and outpatient records.Verify requester's eligibility to receive privileged medical information and ensure strict compliance with regulations and policies.Compose correspondence and extracts of medical reports and records in response to the most difficult/sensitive request.Monitor priorities to ensure schedules and deadlines are met even with changing workloads.
