QualificationsTo qualify at the GS-06 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis. Responding to inquiries from the public and/or government agencies through various channels like phone, email, and written correspondence to provide information and resolve issues related to credentialing Using standard computer software to draft routine correspondence Using data entry systems, such as the Merchant Mariner Licensing and Documentation (MMLD) system, to accurately record information Applying state or federal laws, regulations, and policies To qualify at the GS-07 grade level, your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level in the federal sector. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work. Examples of specialized experience include performing the following types of tasks on a regular basis. Performing the initial review and processing of applications for various Coast Guard merchant mariner credentials, including deck and engine licenses, STCW endorsements, and certificates of registry Responding to oral and written inquiries from the public and/or governmental agencies through office visits, telephone calls, electronic mail, and written correspondence Drafting routine correspondence for a supervisor's signature regarding merchant mariner credentialing requirements using standard computer word-processing software Applying a thorough knowledge of Federal Regulations (such as Title 46 CFR), statutes, and policies governing the issuance of U.S. Merchant Mariner's credentials to correctly and efficiently process applications NOTE: All experience statements (i.e., duties, specialized experience, or related applicable assessment) copied from this announcement and pasted into your resume will not be considered as a demonstration of your qualifications for this position. Major DutiesYou will serve as a Mariner Credentialing Assistant and be responsible for licensing and documentation of merchant mariners and examining merchant marine personnel in accordance with applicable statutes and regulations.. Being a Coast Guard civilian makes you a valuable member of the Coast Guard team. Typical work assignments include: Review and process applications including licenses, documents, endorsements, and certificates Identify non-conformities in application packages, such as incomplete documentation or eligibility issues, that may cause delays or prevent issuance of credentials Respond to public and government inquiries by phone, email, written correspondence, or in person, interacting with other agencies as needed to complete tasks Responsible for accurate entry of application information into appropriate systems Draft routine correspondence about credentialing requirements for supervisor's signature using standard computer software Reasonable Accommodation (RA) Requests: If you believe you have a disability (i.e., physical or mental), covered by the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 as amended that would interfere with completing the USA Hire Competency Based Assessments, you will be granted the opportunity to request a RA in your online application.
