Job SummaryAbout the position: This position is Non-appropriated Fund (NAF) and will be assigned to the Hurlburt Field Aquatics Center and is not guaranteed a set amount of hours, but can be scheduled 0 - 40 hours per week.. As a federal employee you will have access to all Hurlburt Field FSS facilities. Growth and other benefit opportunities also available.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Qualifying Experience: Must have an approved and current nationally recognized certification in lifesaving and water rescue methods and skills, as well as basic first aid training, and CPR (both child and adult) training. Must have experience which provides a practical knowledge of swimming activities, rules, procedures and skill in the use and maintenance of various pool and safety equipment. Must have experience in the receipt, disbursement, examination, deposit or other processing of cash items when this includes direct handling of cash items, and use of cash accountability control methods. Satisfactory completion of installation records check, state and national criminal background checks may be required for positions that provide lifesaving duties for children. Must have the ability to frequently lift and carry objects weighing up to 45 pounds; frequently stand, stoop,bend, stretch, push, and pull. Successful completion and favorable adjudication of applicable background investigation (Tier 1 Level) is required. Must be able to satisfactorily complete a physical examination. Must be able to read, write, and speak English. Must be able to work days, nights, weekends and holidays. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:

Major DutiesUnder the supervision of the Outdoor Recreation (ODR) Director prepares daily schedules for assigned personnel. Sets the pace and works along with other employees; relays information/directions from supervisor to assigned personnel. Controls and issues pool passes, prepares cashier's report and deposit slip; deposits funds to the ODR Operations Clerk (OC) daily. Maintains time and attendance cards for assigned personnel and turns in to OC for processing. Distributes and balances work load among lifeguards. Continuously observes swimming area to ensure safety of patrons. Ensures the swimming area is open to patrons at scheduled times and only authorized persons are admitted to the area. Rescues swimmers in trouble, promptly administers first aid, and calls for medical assistance if and when needed. Warns swimmers of unsafe environment or health conditions and recommends closing swimming areas until safe conditions prevail. When working at pools, may operate water pumps and control chemical additives to ensure pool water meets specified standards. Ensures that facility and equipment are inspected frequently and that necessary repairs are made. Reports the status and progress of work and any issues or concerns to immediate supervisor. Maintains current knowledge and answers questions on procedures, policies, written instructions, and other directives; ensures lifeguards are aware of same. Makes recommendations to ODR Director on staffing needs, disciplinary and/or performance related issues. Conducts in-service training to other assigned lifeguards as directed by supervisor. May perform other related or incidental duties as assigned for the daily operation of the swimming area to include cleaning of bath houses, wading pools, main pools, pool decks, beach areas, sunbathing area, etc. Performs other related duties as assigned.
