Job Title: Structural Steel FitterJob DescriptionWe are seeking a skilled Structural Steel Fitter to join a fabrication team that assembles and prepares structural steel components for a variety of construction projects. In this role, you apply precise measuring, fitting, and layout techniques to ensure steel parts are accurately aligned and ready for welding, while maintaining strict safety and quality standards in a busy fabrication environment.Responsibilities

• Read and interpret blueprints, fabrication drawings, layouts, and specifications to understand project requirements. • Lay out and fit structural steel components by positioning, aligning, and securing parts for assembly and welding. • Operate fabrication tools and shop equipment, including cutting torches, grinders, and measuring instruments, in a safe and efficient manner. • Assist with welding preparation by performing tack welding and ensuring proper fit-up prior to final welds. • Inspect completed assemblies to verify accuracy, alignment, and compliance with project specifications and quality standards. • Maintain a strong safety mindset by following OSHA and shop safety protocols, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). • Collaborate closely with welders, fabricators, and supervisors to meet production goals and project deadlines. • Work effectively in a mostly outdoor fabrication shop environment, handling heavy materials and adapting to varying shop conditions. Essential Skills

• 2–3 years of experience in structural steel fitting or related fabrication work. • Proficiency in using measuring tools and instruments for accurate layout and fitting. • Hands-on fitting experience with structural steel components in a fabrication or construction setting. • Strong understanding of steel properties and how they affect cutting, fitting, and welding processes. • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, technical drawings, and layouts accurately. • Practical experience with fabrication processes, including cutting, grinding, and preparing steel for assembly. • Basic welding skills, including MIG welding and tack welding, sufficient to support fit-up and assembly work. • Ability to lift heavy materials, stand for extended periods, and work safely in varying shop and outdoor conditions. • Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively as part of a fabrication team. • Consistent commitment to safety, quality, and adherence to established procedures and standards. Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working in a high-volume structural steel fabrication shop. • Familiarity with a wide range of fabrication tools and equipment, including cutting torches and grinders. • Knowledge of OSHA safety requirements and best practices in an industrial or fabrication environment. • Attention to detail and a methodical approach to layout, fit-up, and inspection. • Ability to adapt to changing priorities and support different stages of the fabrication process as needed. Standard PPE and appropriate work attire are required to maintain safety while operating tools such as cutting torches, grinders, and welding equipment.Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Bakersfield, CA. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $28.00 - $30.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
