Neighborhood mediator Share Neighborhood mediator For years, the atmosphere between neighbors was soured by a sagging fence. Until they talked to each other and heard the story behind it. The fence was repaired, and so was the relationship! Neighborly disputes are not pleasant for anyone. That's why we're looking for mediators who can talk to residents and help them find a solution together. What do you do as a neighborhood mediator? - You and a fellow mediator visit the neighbor who reported the incident. - Together, you listen to the neighbor's story and experiences. - Then, you and your fellow mediator visit the other neighbor. - Together, you listen to the neighbor's story. Often the same story... but in reverse. - You remain neutral and impartial and look for the neighbors' shared interests. - You and your fellow mediator try to facilitate a discussion between the neighbors in a neutral setting, with your guidance and support. - Conduct a mediation conversation together and help ensure they leave the house in harmony. You always first take the two-day basic neighborhood mediation training course. Once you successfully complete it, you'll work with an experienced neighborhood mediator. And it's good to know: there's already tension between the neighbors; your efforts can make a difference.
