About this role

Amazon Web Services (AWS) is seeking a Manager III, Software Development to lead an engineering team within the Elastic Container Service (ECS) organization in Seattle, WA. ECS is a fully managed container orchestration service that enables customers to deploy, manage, and scale containerized applications with speed and reliability. In this role, you will own the day-to-day technical execution of a team of software development engineers, drive high-quality software delivery, and develop your team members' skills and careers. You will report to a Senior Manager, Software Development within the ECS engineering organization. Your team will own components of the ECS platform through the full software development lifecycle — from design and implementation through deployment, operations, and continuous improvement. You will partner with Principal Engineers, Technical Program Managers, and Product Managers to translate customer requirements into engineering deliverables with clear milestones and measurable outcomes. Key job responsibilities Own end-to-end delivery of ECS features and service improvements that serve customers running production workloads on AWS. Conduct regular one-on-ones, provide direct and actionable feedback, and own the career growth and performance management of direct reports. Collaborate with Principal Engineers and architects to ensure your team's solutions meet AWS standards for scalability, availability, security, and operational excellence. Drive engineering rigor through design reviews, code reviews, and post-incident analysis (PIR) participation. Maintain operational health of team-owned services, including on-call rotations, incident response, and proactive reliability improvements. Represent your team in sprint planning, roadmap discussions, and OP1/OP2 planning cycles. Partner closely with the Vancouver, BC and East Coast ECS engineering teams to deliver cross-site initiatives with consistent quality and pace. Identify and remove blockers that reduce team velocity and delivery quality.
