Grow Your Career with BTNBrookdale Treeland Nurseries Limited (BTN) is looking for a Section Grower to join our Grow Team in Schomberg, Ontario. This is a hands-on growing and leadership role for someone who enjoys working with plants, solving problems, leading people, and taking ownership of crop quality from arrival through to sale. As a Grower, you will be responsible for assigned crop sections, overseeing plant health, crop care, inventory accuracy, labour activities, and day-to-day growing priorities. You will work closely with the Nursery Manager and other members of the Grow Team to ensure crops are healthy, on schedule, and meeting BTN's standards for quality and productivity. This is a full-time, year-round position, typically working Monday to Friday. As with most nursery operations, flexibility is important, and additional hours or weekend work may occasionally be required during peak production periods. What You'll DoCrop Production & Plant HealthTake ownership of the overall health, quality, and readiness of crops within assigned sections.Plan and prepare growing space for incoming plant material.Inspect incoming plants for quality, health, quantity, and accuracy.Support and oversee potting activities in coordination with the Production Lead.Carry out and coordinate crop-care activities, including irrigation, fertilization, spacing, pruning, and winter preparation.Walk assigned crop sections daily to assess plant health, quality, and production needs.Scout for pests, diseases, nutrient deficiencies, irrigation concerns, and other crop-health issues.Monitor and evaluate EC and pH levels and recommend or implement appropriate corrective actions.Participate in propagation, rooting, and other seasonal growing activities as required.Continuously develop your knowledge of plants, pests, cultural practices, and growing techniques.Crop Planning & InventoryMaintain accurate crop labels, inventory counts, shrink reports, and plant movement records.Complete crop status reports and provide regular updates on crop readiness.Conduct weekly saleable crop walks and provide accurate quantities of crops ready for sale.Communicate crop concerns, priorities, and upcoming requirements to the Nursery Manager.Follow up on maintenance, spray, irrigation, and other operational requests to help ensure work is completed.Team LeadershipProvide day-to-day direction, training, and support to assigned crews.Take attendance, assign work, monitor progress, and provide coaching and feedback.Ensure team members understand their assignments, quality expectations, and safe work practices.Monitor productivity against established performance targets while maintaining crop quality and safety.Identify upcoming labour requirements and communicate needs to the Nursery Manager.Plan work in advance so materials, equipment, and tools are ready when crews begin their assignments.Seasonal ProgramsSupport the growing, production, and crop-management requirements of BTN's Braided Willow Program, primarily from January through April.Assist with BTN's Christmas Program, as required, during October and November.Support other seasonal nursery production activities based on operational requirements. What You'll BringPost-secondary education in horticulture, plant science, agriculture, or a related field and/or equivalent practical nursery growing experience.At least 2 years of relevant horticultural, nursery, greenhouse, or crop-production experience preferred.A general understanding of container nursery crop production and plant health.Strong organizational and planning skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.Strong communication skills and the ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.A hands-on leadership style and the ability to effectively direct, train, and support crews.The ability to work independently, identify problems, an
