*About the Role*
As the Casthouse Manager, you will report to the Plant Manager and lead the safety, productivity, quality, and overall performance of aluminum casting operations, including billet and log production. This senior leadership role oversees people leadership, process optimization, quality assurance, and planning while building a high-performance culture grounded in accountability and continuous improvement.
*Key Responsibilities*
* Lead all casthouse operations to achieve safety, quality, production, cost, and customer requirements. * Develop and use operational strategies, production data, and KPIs to improve yield, productivity, process stability, equipment uptime, resource utilization, and overall performance. * Plan labour and production requirements across shifts, adapting to staffing, equipment availability, and changing operational priorities. * Maintain high standards for billet and log quality, alloy integrity, scrap segregation, overall process control, and compliance with the Signature Quality Management System (QMS) * Use production data and KPIs to identify issues, lead corrective actions, and drive continuous improvement. * Partner with maintenance, technical, logistics, and other departments to reduce downtime and support plant-wide goals. * Lead and develop supervisors, unionized employees, and technical staff by setting clear expectations, strengthening accountability, and supporting succession readiness. * Manage performance, training, corrective action, and employee relations in accordance with company requirements and the collective agreement. * Champion a safety-first culture, lead incident investigations and risk-reduction efforts, and ensure environmental and regulatory compliance. * Support capital projects and provide operational reporting and recommendations to plant and corporate leadership.
*Qualifications*
* Post-secondary education in Engineering or a related technical field is required. * Technical Training or Production Management training considered a strong asset. * A minimum of 7 years of progressive experience in heavy manufacturing, including at least 3 years in a leadership role. * Experience managing in a unionized environment is required.
*Skills and Abilities Needed:*
* Strong technical understanding of casting processes, metallurgy, scrap management, and quality systems. * Proven leadership skills with the ability to build accountability, develop employees, and maintain positive labour relations. * Excellent interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills. * Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to interpret production data and prioritize improvement opportunities. * Ability to collaborate effectively across departments and balance multiple priorities with urgency and focus. * Proficiency with ERP systems, production tracking systems, and Microsoft Office. * Knowledge of safe practices for ind
