Education: Other trades certificate or diploma. Work setting: Industrial. Urban area. Tasks: Interpret welding process specifications. Operate manual or semi-automatic, fully automated welding equipment. Read and interpret welding blueprints, drawings specifications, manuals and processes. Examine welds and ensure that they meet standards and/or specifications. Operate hoisting and lifting equipment. Maintain and perform minor repairs on welding, brazing and soldering equipment. Type of materials: Composite materials. Copper and copper alloys. Stainless steel. Steel, iron and heavy metals. Welding techniques: Shielded metal arc welding (SMAW). Gas tungsten arc welding (GTAW) (TIG). Gas metal arc welding (GMAW). Equipment and machinery experience: Gas welding machine. Spot welding machine. Area of specialization: Cast iron and other metals. Process piping. Work conditions and physical capabilities: Fast-paced environment. Attention to detail. Hand-eye co-ordination. Own tools/equipment: Steel-toed safety boots.
