About this role

Department: The Salvation Army Hawaii County Position Title: Grants & Contracts Accountant Supervisor: Hawaii County Coordinators FLSA Status: Exempt, Full- Time Date: August 2026

Annual Salary Range: $55,000 to $60,000

Role:

The Grants & Contracts Accountant works under the direct supervision of the Hawaii County Coordinators. The Grants & Contracts Accountant has knowledge of, and in conversant with, accounting principles as it pertains to accrual, double-entry accounting.

A. ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, with experience in Great Plains or other Computer accounting software and spreadsheet applications including Microsoft Excel

• Minimum 5 years Professional Accounting work, which involves overseeing finance operations, and maintaining financial compliance requirements for Government contracts, with specific experience to non-profits

• Valid TB clearance and physical

• Valid Hawaii Driver's license and valid no-fault

• FBI/Criminal History, and CAN check cleared

• Gain and maintain familiarity with The Salvation Army Accounting and Personnel policies and procedures.

• Experience in financial reporting for County/State/Federal

• Work with contracting /licensing agency

B. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

• Ensure that financial statements conform to generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).

• Assist the FIS Administrator with budgeting and cost

• Handle insurance matters according to The Salvation Army

• Responsible for all accounting functions, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, cash/banking, monthly journal entries and general ledger

• Prepare all government and other funding agencies financial reports in a timely

• Develop, review, and revise cost allocation with administrative

• Prepare necessary workpapers/schedules and participate in annual internal and external

• Assist DHQ & FIS Administration with budgets and budget amendments on a timely

• Prepare bi-weekly payroll

• Provide DHQ & FIS Administration with monthly reports with information deemed necessary for the continued financial stability of each program (contract).

• Assist in preparation of budgetary information in response to government and other agency requests for proposals.

• Provide DHQ & FIS Administration with monthly reports with information deemed necessary for the continued stability of each contract.

• Make financial decisions in the absence of Program Directors in compliance with contract requirements.
