Job Summary
The Commercial Mobile HVAC Technician is responsible for servicing, repairing, replacing, and maintaining commercial HVAC systems across multiple client properties throughout Morristown, New Jersey and surrounding areas. This position requires strong troubleshooting skills, hands-on mechanical experience, and the ability to independently respond to service needs while providing professional customer service.
The ideal candidate is a skilled HVAC professional who can diagnose and resolve equipment issues efficiently, maintain safe and reliable system operation, and represent the company professionally at various customer locations.
Key Responsibilities
• Perform troubleshooting, repair, preventive maintenance, and service of commercial HVAC systems and related equipment.
• Travel to multiple customer locations to respond to scheduled and emergency service calls.
• Service HVAC equipment, including recovering refrigerant, repairing leaks, replacing components, and performing system diagnostics.
• Perform minor equipment replacements and installations as required.
• Properly operate HVAC tools and equipment, including recovery machines, vacuum pumps, manifold gauges, and oxy-acetylene torches.
• Diagnose electrical, mechanical, refrigeration, and control system issues.
• Inspect HVAC systems and equipment to ensure proper operation, safety, and compliance with applicable standards.
• Maintain accurate service records, including timesheets, service reports, expense reports, and customer documentation.
• Communicate professionally with customers upon arrival and before leaving the job site.
• Provide customers and management with updates regarding job progress, equipment conditions, and additional service needs.
• Identify opportunities for additional repairs or maintenance and communicate recommendations to management.
• Maintain a clean and organized service vehicle, tools, and equipment.
• Follow all company safety policies, procedures, and required safety training.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
Schedule Requirements
• Must be available for on-call emergency service, including nights, weekends, and holidays, as needed.
• Ability to work overtime based on business and customer needs.
• Must be willing and able to travel between multiple commercial customer locations throughout the Morristown, NJ area and surrounding markets.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
• Journeyman-level knowledge of commercial HVAC troubleshooting, repair, and maintenance.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical, electrical, and control diagrams.
• Strong understanding of air conditioning, refrigeration, heating, and ventilation principles.
• Experience servicing commercial HVAC systems, including split systems, air handlers, chillers, VRF systems, pumps, and related equipment.
• Strong electrical and mechanical troubleshooting skills.
• Ability to use HVAC diagnostic equipment and common hand and power tools.
• Basic computer proficiency, including Microsoft Word, Excel, email, and internet applications.
• Ability to document work accurately using electronic service or work-order systems.
• Ability to communicate technical information clearly to both technical and non-technical individuals.
• Strong customer service and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work independently while also collaborating effectively with customers, technicians, and management.
• Professional appearance and conduct when representing the company at customer locations.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions
• Ability to lift, carry, push, or pull tools, equipment, and materials up to 50 pounds.
• Ability to climb ladders and work from elevated platforms.
• Ability to stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, reach overhead, and work in awkward positions.
• Ability to work in confined spaces, mechanical rooms, rooftops, and other commercial building environments.
• Must be able to safely operate a variety of hand and power tools.
• Visual acuity required to read diagrams, inspect equipment, identify components, and perform repairs.
• Work environments may include exposure to heat, cold, moisture, noise, vibration, dust, and mechanical equipment.
• Ability to safely travel between customer locations as required.
Qualifications
• 2-year degree or technical certification in HVAC, Air Conditioning, Refrigeration, or a related field, preferred; or
• 3–5 years of experience in commercial HVAC maintenance, repair, or mechanical systems servicing.
• Demonstrated experience working with commercial HVAC systems, including split systems, air handlers, chillers, VRF systems, pumps, and related equipment.
• EPA 608 Universal Certification required.
• Strong understanding of commercial HVAC electrical, mechanical, refrigeration, and control systems.
• Basic computer proficiency and experience using HVAC diagnostic, service management, or programming software.
• Valid driver's license and reliable transportation.
• Ability to travel between multiple customer locations as required.
• Demonstrated professionalism and the ability to represent the company in a positive, ethical, and customer-focused manner.
