About this role

Job Title: Machine OperatorJob DescriptionThis role operates automated, computer-controlled cold saws to cut round bar and threaded bar to precise lengths, while safely handling materials using an overhead crane and side-loading forklift. The Machine Operator measures and inspects parts to ensure they meet quality specifications and supports efficient, high-volume production in a metal cutting environment. Responsibilities • Operate an automated, computer-controlled cold saw to cut round bar and threaded bar to specified lengths. • Set up and adjust saw equipment to meet production requirements and maintain cutting accuracy. • Use an overhead crane to safely maneuver and position parts for cutting on the saw. • Operate a side-loading forklift to transport raw materials and finished parts throughout the facility. • Measure parts using a tape measure and other basic tools to verify dimensions against specifications. • Inspect cut parts for quality, ensuring proper length, finish, and overall workmanship. • Follow established production procedures to support consistent output and minimize downtime. • Work safely around industrial machinery, following all safety guidelines and using equipment correctly. • Maintain a clean and organized work area within the machine shop environment. • Communicate effectively with team members and supervisors regarding production status and any issues. Essential Skills • Hands-on experience with metal cutting using any type of metal cutting equipment. • Proven forklift operating experience with any type of forklift. • Ability to accurately read and use a tape measure. • Basic machine operation skills in a production or manufacturing environment. • Ability to work safely around industrial machinery and follow safety protocols. • Attention to detail when measuring and inspecting parts for quality. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience operating automated or computer-controlled saws is a plus. • Comfort working in a machine shop or manufacturing setting. • Willingness to learn new equipment and processes through on-the-job training. • Strong work ethic and reliability for consistent shift work. Work EnvironmentThis position works primarily on 2nd shift, from 2:30 p.m. to 11:00 p.m., Monday through Friday. Initial training takes place on day shift, from 6:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, for approximately one month. The machine shop is clean for an industrial setting and located in an enclosed but uninsulated building, similar to a pole barn, which can feel cooler in the winter and warmer in the summer. The atmosphere is friendly and laid back, with industrial machinery running throughout the facility. Safe work practices around equipment are essential at all times. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Portland, OR. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $22.50 - $26.50/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
