About this role

Job Title: Material HandlerJob DescriptionThe Material Handler supports production operations by setting up, adjusting, and operating bottle handling equipment, labelers, and video jet systems while safely transporting materials between machine stations. This role helps maintain a steady flow of bottles and jugs, ensures proper coding and labeling, and assists with equipment and bagging operations to keep production running efficiently. Responsibilities • Set up, adjust, and operate bottle handling equipment, labelers, and video jet systems to support production needs. • Handle and transport materials between machine stations to maintain a continuous production flow. • Check bottles for proper codes and labels during changeovers to ensure accuracy and quality. • Monitor the Alpine system, clear jams, and reroute jugs as needed to minimize downtime. • Maintain jug supply and storage, and communicate bottle trailer needs to the supervisor. • Keep machines supplied and running efficiently to feed the bagging machine. • Operate the bagging machine when production is down or as directed. • Maintain a clean work area and keep equipment clean and organized. • Communicate promptly with the lead person or supervisor when issues arise. • Assist Maintenance when equipment is down, including basic support tasks as directed. • Follow all Safety Procedures and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) at all times. • Work weekends, holidays, and overtime as needed to support production demands. • Collaborate effectively with team members to complete loading, packaging, and unloading tasks. Essential Skills • Experience in material handling and general production or general labor environments. • Ability to set up, adjust, and operate bottle handling equipment, labelers, and video jet systems. • Capability to load, unload, and package materials safely and efficiently. • Strong attention to detail when checking bottle codes, labels, and product quality. • Ability to monitor equipment such as the Alpine system and respond quickly to jams or issues. • Willingness and ability to work weekends, holidays, and overtime as required. • Commitment to following Safety Procedures and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). • Effective teamwork skills and the ability to communicate clearly with supervisors and leads. Additional Skills & Qualifications • Experience operating bagging machines or similar packaging equipment. • Familiarity with production environments involving dairy or food products. • Comfort working in a refrigerated environment and around common allergens such as dairy, eggs, and nuts. • Ability to assist maintenance personnel with basic tasks when equipment is down. • Strong work ethic and reliability in supporting continuous production operations. Work EnvironmentThis role is based in a refrigerated production facility working near dairy and other common allergens such as eggs and nuts. You will work around bottle handling equipment, labelers, video jet systems, and bagging machines, and regularly handle materials for loading, packaging, and unloading. The environment emphasizes adherence to Safety Procedures and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). Work hours may include weekends, holidays, and overtime, depending on production needs, and you will collaborate closely with production, maintenance, and supervisory staff on the floor. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract to Hire position based out of Newport News, VA. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $17.50 - $18.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
