About this role

Job Title: Electrical Engineer (Professional Engineer)Job DescriptionThis role is an on-site Electrical Engineer position supporting a large campus, focused on the analysis, evaluation, reliability, and expansion of medium-voltage electrical infrastructure. You will serve as the primary technical authority for 13.8kV distribution systems, substations, switchgear, protective relaying systems, transformers, and associated power distribution equipment. You will lead design reviews, act as a trusted technical advisor, and support both planned system improvements and rapid-response troubleshooting to ensure safe, reliable, and resilient plant operations over the long term.Responsibilities

• Lead electrical system assessments, including detailed reviews of one-line diagrams, protection coordination studies, arc flash analyses, and equipment evaluations. • Perform load flow, capacity, and infrastructure analyses to evaluate system performance and identify operational constraints for current and future load demands. • Evaluate short-circuit conditions, protective device coordination, and equipment ratings to ensure safe and reliable electrical operations. • Assess system reliability and resiliency, identify single points of failure, and develop recommendations to improve operational continuity. • Support maintenance planning through equipment condition assessments, lifecycle evaluations, replacement planning, and asset management recommendations. • Investigate power quality concerns, including harmonics, voltage fluctuations, motor starting impacts, and system disturbances, and recommend corrective actions. • Provide engineering support for plant expansions, equipment upgrades, and system modifications, including evaluation of impacts on existing infrastructure. • Respond to electrical outages, equipment failures, and abnormal operating events by performing troubleshooting, root cause analysis, and developing corrective action recommendations. • Develop and maintain electrical system models and perform engineering studies to support maintenance, operational, and risk mitigation decisions. • Prepare clear technical reports, engineering recommendations, and presentations for operations, maintenance, and management teams. • Review and evaluate electrical designs and documentation, providing feedback and guidance as the go-to technical expert. • Collaborate closely with operations, maintenance, facility engineering, and university stakeholders to align engineering solutions with operational needs. • Provide both remote and on-site engineering support based on operational priorities and emergent issues. • Use AutoCAD and power system modeling tools to document, analyze, and optimize electrical infrastructure. • Support and guide the engineering support team and operations partners in implementing best practices for safe and reliable electrical system operation. Essential Skills

• Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, preferably with a experience in building design or utilities. • Active Professional Engineer (PE) license in electrical engineering. • 10+ years of experience in power systems engineering, electrical distribution, or utility infrastructure. • Proven experience with medium-voltage power distribution systems (13.8kV or similar). • Strong understanding of substations, transformers, switchgear, protective relaying, and distribution equipment. • Hands-on experience performing load flow studies, short-circuit studies, protection coordination studies, arc flash analyses, and power quality assessments. • Familiarity with applicable IEEE standards, NFPA 70E, the National Electrical Code (NEC), and the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC). • Proficiency with power system modeling software such as ETAP, EasyPower, or equivalent tools. • Proficiency with AutoCAD for electrical design and documentation. • Strong troubleshooting and analytical skills for diagnosing complex electrical issues. • Strong technical writing skills for preparing detailed reports, studies, and recommendations. • Ability to support urgent operational issues and effectively prioritize multiple assignments in a dynamic environment. Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Experience working on large campus, plant, or utility-scale electrical infrastructure projects. • Experience supporting plant expansions, equipment upgrades, and system modifications. • Experience conducting lifecycle evaluations and developing asset management strategies. • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical stakeholders. • Experience collaborating with cross-functional teams, including operations, maintenance, and facility engineering. • Comfort providing both remote and on-site engineering support based on operational needs. • Interest in long-term infrastructure support, with exposure to extended-duration contracts. Work EnvironmentThis position is based on-site in Prince George's County and requires working in the office five days a week. You will work closely with a plant leadership team, reporting into plant-level leadership and collaborating daily with an internal engineering support team as well as external operations and maintenance partners and electrical specialists.
