Job Title: Systems Technologist – Industrial Control SystemsJob DescriptionThis role focuses on designing, programming, and implementing industrial control and automation solutions for heavy industrial environments. You will work on large machinery and complex process systems, combining control system design, PLC programming, HMI development, and on-site commissioning support. The position offers exposure to cutting-edge automation projects, significant problem-solving opportunities, and the chance to contribute directly to innovative integration work in a collaborative and growth-oriented team.Responsibilities

• Design, program, and implement industrial control systems for heavy industrial, mining, and process plant environments. • Develop PLC programs from scratch, including rewriting and optimizing large portions of existing code when issues arise. • Troubleshoot complex automation and control system problems and provide effective, timely solutions. • Configure, program, and maintain PLCs, particularly Schneider platforms, to support industrial automation projects. • Develop and maintain HMI applications using tools such as Wonderware, FactoryTalk, and Ignition. • Work with variable frequency drives (VFDs), especially ABB VFDs, to integrate and control large machinery. • Apply and adhere to the Canadian Electrical Code in all aspects of electrical design and implementation. • Assist with electrical design and control panel layouts, leveraging CAD software where applicable. • Participate in on-site work at customer facilities, including commissioning, testing, and resolving client issues. • Collaborate with electricians, mechanical engineers, and other technical teams to deliver integrated automation solutions. • Create and maintain project documentation, including design specifications, programming notes, and test reports. • Contribute to project management activities, such as planning tasks, tracking progress, and coordinating with stakeholders. • Engage in open discussions about workload and project responsibilities to align work with individual strengths and interests. • Handle difficult situations professionally and maintain a solutions-oriented mindset when facing complex challenges. • Support continuous improvement efforts in control systems, automation processes, and team practices. Essential Skills

• Diploma in Electrical Engineering, Systems Engineering, Mechatronics, or a closely related discipline. • Minimum 3 years of direct experience in industrial, mining, or process plant environments. • At least 3 years of PLC programming experience, including hands-on work with Schneider PLCs. • Demonstrated ability to create PLC programs from scratch and to rewrite substantial portions of code when required. • Minimum 2 years of experience developing and working with HMIs such as Wonderware, FactoryTalk, and Ignition. • At least 3 years of experience working with VFDs, preferably ABB VFDs, in industrial applications. • Minimum 2 years of on-site experience working directly with clients in industrial settings. • At least 3 years of experience working with and applying the Canadian Electrical Code. • Strong troubleshooting skills and the ability to solve complex control and automation problems. • Comfort working with heavy industrial automation and large machinery, including on-site commissioning and testing. • Ability to work collaboratively with multidisciplinary teams, including electricians and mechanical engineers. • Clear, professional communication skills for interacting with clients and internal stakeholders. Additional Skills & Qualifications

• Professional engineering designation (P.Eng.) or Engineer-in-Training (EIT) status is an asset. • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering or a related engineering discipline is an asset. • 5+ years of experience programming and troubleshooting PLCs is preferred. • 2+ years of experience working with CAD software for electrical design and control panel layouts is an asset. • Project management experience, including planning, coordination, and documentation, is beneficial. • Experience with radar-based automation or advanced sensing technologies is an asset. • Interest in continuous learning and professional development, including pursuing additional training or education. • Ability to thrive in a fast-growing, evolving environment with changing project demands. • Strong problem-solving mindset, with a genuine interest in tackling complex technical challenges rather than routine tasks. Work EnvironmentThe role combines office-based design and programming work with regular on-site activities at customer facilities. On a typical week, you may spend approximately three out of five days in the office and two days on customer sites, working on programming, CAD design, documentation, commissioning, and testing. Occasionally, large projects may require extended on-site presence, such as up to three weeks in a row, a few times per year. The team environment is energetic, and highly collaborative, with colleagues actively supporting each other and engaging in open conversations about responsibilities and career goals. The culture encourages personal growth, with training and further education supported and funded, allowing you to tailor your development path and gain experience across different areas of automation and control. The atmosphere is friendly and informal, with social activities such as board games at lunch contributing to a positive and engaging workplace.
