Job DescriptionThe Maintenance Technician plays a critical role in ensuring reliable operation of production, utility, and process equipment within a fill-finish pharmaceutical manufacturing environment. This position focuses on installation, troubleshooting, maintenance, repair, testing, and documentation of mechanical, electrical, and HVAC systems that support safe, compliant, and efficient operations.Responsibilities
• Maintain and repair a wide range of production mechanical equipment to ensure safe and reliable operation. • Support the maintenance, operation, and repair of all systems, subsystems, and equipment throughout the facility. • Provide technical support to engineering and operations teams in the design, installation, testing, operation, and maintenance of fill-finish manufacturing and support equipment. • Ensure all assigned equipment and associated subsystems are maintained in accordance with applicable federal, state, and local regulations, as well as internal procedures and policies. • Maintain assigned equipment and areas in a constant state of inspection readiness. • Identify training gaps and provide recommendations, guidance, and hands-on training where appropriate. • Continuously evaluate and improve maintenance practices, procedures, and documentation to enhance reliability and compliance. • Perform troubleshooting and repair of electrical, pneumatic, mechanical, and HVAC equipment. • Complete preventive maintenance activities and all associated paperwork following cGMP documentation guidelines. • Coordinate external contractors for repairs, modifications, and installations of equipment and systems. • Work directly with Manufacturing, Engineering, and Quality organizations on new system installations, upgrades, or modifications. • Attend all required cGMP and safety training sessions and apply learned practices in daily work. • Maintain all assigned qualifications and certifications as required for the role. • Create, read, interpret, and revise engineering documents, including technical drawings and specifications. • Prepare clear and accurate technical reports and maintenance documentation. • Partner with internal customers and serve as a reliable technical resource for equipment and maintenance-related issues. • Identify and implement process improvements that enhance equipment performance, reliability, and maintainability. • Use Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS) to manage work orders, record maintenance activities, and maintain accurate equipment history. • Follow standard operating procedures (SOPs), read and understand P&IDs, and use basic computer skills to support daily tasks. • Work safely with hazardous chemicals, high and low temperature liquids, high-pressure liquids and gases, steam, varying electrical voltages, and moving machinery. • Multi-task effectively and adjust to overtime or temporary shift changes based on operational needs. • Perform physical tasks such as lifting up to 50 pounds, climbing ladders, and working at elevations up to 15 feet as required by maintenance activities. Essential Skills
• Thorough working knowledge of pharmaceutical filling, freeze-drying, and packaging equipment operation and maintenance. • Strong working knowledge of pumps, valves, mechanical seals, motors, and proper lubrication practices. • Full working knowledge of cGMP requirements and predictive maintenance philosophy and techniques. • Ability to create, read, interpret, and revise engineering documents and technical drawings. • Strong writing skills for preparing technical reports, maintenance records, and documentation. • Ability to partner with internal customers and serve as a technical resource for equipment and maintenance issues. • Ability to identify and implement process improvements that enhance equipment reliability and performance. • Ability to work safely with hazardous chemicals, extreme temperature liquids, high-pressure liquids and gases, steam, varying electrical voltages, and moving machinery. • Ability to read and understand P&IDs and work effectively from SOPs. • Basic computer skills for documentation, communication, and use of maintenance-related software. • Knowledge of and ability to use Computerized Maintenance Management Systems (CMMS). • Detail-oriented and organized with strong record-keeping and documentation practices. • Effective communication skills and the ability to work with minimal or no supervision. • Capability to multi-task and adapt to overtime or temporary modifications to shift schedules as needed. • Physical ability to lift up to 50 pounds, climb ladders, and work at elevations up to 15 feet. • Demonstrated mechanical acumen and strong mechanical aptitude. • HVAC experience and ability to support HVAC-related maintenance and troubleshooting. Additional Skills & Qualifications
• Familiarity with machine shop equipment, including CNC machines and lathes, is a plus. • Experience working in a pharmaceutical or cGMP-regulated environment is highly beneficial. • Experience with predictive maintenance tools and techniques is advantageous. • Strong attention to detail and commitment to maintaining inspection-ready equipment and areas. • Ability to build positive working relationships with Manufacturing, Engineering, Quality, and external contractors. • Proactive mindset with a focus on continuous improvement of maintenance practices and equipment reliability. Work EnvironmentThis role operates in a fill-finish pharmaceutical manufacturing and utility plant environment that includes production areas, mechanical rooms, utility spaces, and machine shop equipment. The Maintenance Technician works around filling, freeze-drying, and packaging equipment, as well as pumps, valves, motors, HVAC systems, and other process and utility equipment. The position involves regular interaction with hazardous chemicals, high and low temperature liquids, high-pressure liquids and gases, steam, varying electrical voltages, and moving machinery, requiring strict adherence to safety protocols and use of appropriate personal protective equipment. Work hours may include standard shifts with the need for overtime or temporary shift changes based on operational and maintenance demands. The environment emphasizes cGMP compliance, inspection readiness, accurate documentation, and close collaboration with Manufacturing, Engineering, and Quality teams. Attire typically consists of appropriate work clothing and required safety gear suitable for a pharmaceutical manufacturing and maintenance setting. Job Type & LocationThis is a Contract position based out of Thousand Oaks, CA. Pay and BenefitsThe pay range for this position is $28.00 - $30.00/hr. Individual compensation offered for this position within this range will depend on many factors, including qualifications, skills, relevant experience, job knowledge, geographic location, internal equity, and other pertinent job-related factors.Eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
