Material Planning Coord IV
Job Description: The Material Planning Coordinator is the primary point of contact responsible for coordinating the movement of material throughout the plant. This position works closely with Production Schedulers, Production Managers, Shift Supervisors, Area Coordinators, and Materials Handling personnel to understand production needs and priorities and provide clear, timely directions to ensure required materials are moved efficiently and safely.
The successful candidate must be able to receive multiple requests, evaluate competing priorities, make sound decisions, communicate clear direction, and adjust plans as production needs or conditions change. The ability to remain organized and composed in a fast-paced environment while maintaining awareness of multiple material movements will be critical to success.
This position requires a strong understanding of the flow of production processes and material movement. Previous experience in these areas is preferred; however, candidates who demonstrate strong communication, organization, decision-making, dependability, and the ability to quickly learn plant processes and procedures will be considered.
The Material Planning Coordinator will report to the Traffic Manager and will work a 12-hour rotating shift aligned with one of the four production crews. Advanced planning and coordination with Scheduling will be required to ensure alignment with production needs and priorities. Efficient movement of materials and effective utilization of available material-handling resources will be key objectives of this position.
Responsibilities • Determine available resources at the beginning of each shift, including available drivers, trucks, and trailers, and establish priorities based on production requirements. • Coordinate material movements for production in conjunction with Production Managers, Shift Supervisors, Area Coordinators, and Materials Handling personnel to ensure priorities are clearly understood and production goals are achieved. • Receive, evaluate, prioritize, and action material transfer requests based on production schedules, operational needs, and available resources. • Communicate with production buildings regarding requested movements and provide accurate ETAs to help ensure building operators are prepared to receive or provide material. • Utilize telephone, email, two-way radio, and other available communication methods to maintain clear and timely communication with Materials Handling and Operations personnel. • Monitor changing conditions throughout the shift and adjust priorities, resources, and movement plans as necessary to maintain production flow. • Document trailer movements and locations and verify docking locations to ensure applicable load limits and site requirements are maintained. • Optimize trailer loading and material movements by consolidating movements when appropriate based on intended destination, including shipment, internal use, or magazine storage. • Coordinate trailer parking and monitor material staged on trailers to promote efficient utilization and timely movement. • Coordinate trucks and trailers requiring cleaning, preventive maintenance, inspection, or repair and facilitate movement to the appropriate location. • Facilitate daily Production and Logistics Coordination activities to establish priorities and prepare for upcoming shifts. • Maintain accurate and timely records of material movements, trailer locations, priorities, and other information necessary to support production and Materials Handling operations. • Promote effective teamwork and maintain professional, respectful communication across departments and shifts.
Required Skills and Education: • Previous experience in production, materials handling, transportation, logistics, scheduling, or a related coordination role preferred; equivalent experience demonstrating strong organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills may also be considered. • Strong understanding of plant operations and material movement preferred; ability to quickly learn plant layout, production processes, material flow, and applicable procedures required. • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly and effectively across multiple departments and levels of the organization. • Demonstrated ability to prioritize multiple requests, balance competing operational needs, and make sound decisions in a fast-paced and changing environment. • Ability to communicate clearly, provide concise direction, and effectively coordinate activities across multiple departments and work groups. • Strong organization and problem-solving skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities, remain focused, and adapt to changing conditions in a fast-paced environment. • Demonstrated teamwork, leadership, dependability, accountability, strong work ethic, and interpersonal skills. • Ability to work independently while maintaining effective communication with cross-functional work groups and adapt to changing conditions by developing alternate plans or approaches when necessary. • Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Excel and Outlook, working knowledge of Matlink, and the ability to learn other applicable systems. • Willingness and ability to learn new processes, procedures, systems, and responsibilities associated with the Material Planning Coordinator role. • Ability and willingness to work a 12-hour rotating shift aligned with one of the four production crews. • Willingness to work overtime, including covering other shifts as needed, is expected during the initial staffing and training period until adequate backup dispatch coverage is established.
