About this role

Salary: £68,000 - 108,000 per year

Responsibilities: Work alongside User Researchers, Analysts, Designers, Product Managers, Software Developers, Architects, policy, innovation and technology specialists.Develop innovative approaches for digital products that are part of end-to-end services across HMRC and government.Interpret and react to small, medium and large-scale challenges, identifying potential and future opportunities.Use emerging technology, data and user needs to develop innovative concepts and solutions.Support Innovation colleagues with technical and architecture expertise.Design proof of concepts to test solutions for future services.Work with internal groups, third parties, external suppliers and academia to develop concepts and MVPs.Run proof of value exercises to demonstrate customer and HMRC impact.Contribute to business cases and make recommendations for future direction.Deliver recommendations to senior partners to influence policy and strategy.Rapidly develop an understanding of technologies in use and the overall architecture strategy.Work closely with Innovation scrum teams, business partners and IT colleagues to design innovative but appropriate solutions.Ensure solutions demonstrate that new technology and approaches can deliver improvements and fit with strategic end-to-end functional design.Work creatively in a fail fast manner on inception and discovery projects where scope and concept are not clearly defined.Technical skills assessed during selection: architecting for the whole context, architecture communication, community collaboration, marking architectural decisions, strategy design, and technical design throughout the lifecycle. Our small, agile Innovation Team sits within our Chief Technology and Design Office and focuses on technical innovation to improve the UK tax system through continuous exploration, user-centred design and new technology. This Senior Technical Architect role is part of our multidisciplinary Innovation Team and wider Architecture community, supporting large-scale transformation with impact for customers and staff. We offer flexible and hybrid working, with office-based working expected for 60% of working time and home working available where the role allows. Our salary is 58,541 to 72,711 per year, with a generous Civil Service pension contribution, 25 days leave rising to 30 days, family-friendly policies, personal support, coaching and development. Locations include Birmingham, Bristol, Leeds, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle upon Tyne, Telford, Worthing, Stratford-upon-Avon, Reading, Cardiff, Edinburgh and other UK locations.
