General Description The purpose of this class is to supervise the maintenance and operations of the county parks system.
Duties and Responsibilities The functions listed below are those that represent the majority of the time spent working in this class. Management may assign additional functions related to the type of work of the class as necessary.
• Supervises, directs, and evaluates assigned staff, processing employee concerns and problems, directing work, counseling, disciplining, and completing employee performance appraisals. • Coordinates, assigns, and reviews work and establishes work schedules; maintains standards; monitors status of work in progress; inspects completed work assignments; answers questions; gives advice and direction as needed. • Coordinates park maintenance activities and crews, including grounds and facility maintenance. • Conducts weekly inspections of parks. • Monitors contractors’ activity. • Tracks inventory of supplies and orders as needed. • Performs general grounds maintenance work if needed. • Supervises pesticide and herbicide applications. • Performs related work as assigned.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements: Requires High School diploma or GED equivalent. Requires two years of experience in building and/or grounds maintenance or closely related experience.

Unavoidable hazards refer to the job conditions that may lead to injury or health hazards even though precautions have been taken.
• The work is typically performed in a motor vehicle and outdoor setting. The employee occasionally lifts light and heavy objects. • The work is typically performed in the field including possible inclement weather conditions. The employee is exposed to noise, dust, grease, machinery and chemicals. The work requires the use of protective devises such as masks, eye protection, gloves etc.
Emergency Preparedness Tier Level: 1
Special Certifications and Licenses: Must possess and maintain a valid state driver’s license with an acceptable driving history. Requires Texas Department of Agriculture non-commercial pesticide license within six months of employment.
