About this role

Starting in the compounder role for 1-2 years, you’ll have the opportunity to apply for our prestigious 5-7 year training program. With regular milestone awards along the way, you could learn everything you need to become a fully qualified Flavorist in 7 years. The successful candidate will be part of the Global Flavours Development team creating unique ingredients for the food industry. The preferred candidate will be self-motivated, questioning, and pay attention to detail. The role supports the flavorist and sampling teams in a broad variety of functions including preparing emulsions and compounding liquid and powdered flavors.

Duties and Responsibilities

Compound accurately a broad range of flavors including emulsions, liquid mixtures and spray dried flavors from formulations provided by a flavorist Operate a pilot scale spray dryerConduct physical, chemical and organoleptic testing; making oral and written observations and judgments on process and outcome to provide feedback to flavoristMaintain a safe and professional laboratory environmentMaintain current raw material inventory and flavor retention librariesMaintain a specific sample library; liaising with production to obtain materialsUtilise good communication skills, both written and oral; enters and maintains accurate and thorough records as requiredCare for equipment and arranges for repair/replacement if necessary.Participate in Sensory panels as well as day to day organoleptic evaluations and screenings of flavors.Perform other duties as assigned to support needs of business.May initiate PO for raw materials, equipment or parts. Skills and Abilities

Demonstrates strong and discerning sense of smell and taste.Good people and communication skills, with written and oral English a must, along with ability to work within short time-frames, stay focused under pressure.Good math skills for problem-solving calculations and good ability in general lab techniques.Good computer skills (MS Office, ERP)Problem solving to achieve goalsAbility to follow procedures when sampling from production (Raw materials and final product)Flexibility to travel, sometimes at short notice and most importantly a willingness to learn. Education and Experience

A Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or Food Science/Technology is preferred with experience in the flavour or food industry, an advantage.
