Job summary
We are seeking a motivated and aspiring Senior Supervisor to join the supervisory team within the Estate and Facilities Division, Site Services Directorate.
Working closely with Deputy Support Service Managers, the post holder will provide guidance and support to Domestic Supervisors in the day-to-day management of services, promoting positive staff performance, attendance and wellbeing, and fostering an inclusive and supportive working environment. The role is responsible for overseeing Domestic Supervisors, Domestic Assistants, Deep Clean Assistants and the pest control service, ensuring all services are delivered consistently, effectively and in compliance with NHS Cleaning Standards, legal and statutory standards.

Based at our main site in Withington, this Band 4 position offers 37.5 hours per week, 27 days annual leave plus bank holidays, rising with length of service, and membership of the NHS Pension Scheme. Elements of the service operate 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, and working hours will vary in line with service needs, with appropriate notice given of any roster changes.

Job description Job responsibilities 1. Operational Service Delivery
Support the delivery of domestic and deep clean services in line with service specifications, Trust procedures and the National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness. Ensure adequate staffing levels are maintained to deliver high quality services, including reactive and emergency cleaning responses. Coordinate daily work allocation, cleaning schedules and rotas to ensure continuity and consistency of service delivery. Participate in and support rapid response and emergency cleaning requirements as required. Ensure services are delivered efficiently, making effective use of resources while maintaining safety and quality standards.
2. Leadership, Supervision and Staff Support Provide day to day supervision, guidance and support to domestic and deep clean staff, and support Domestic Supervisors in the effective management of their teams. Promote positive performance, attendance, conduct and wellbeing in line with Trust policies and the NHS People Promise. Support staff induction, training, ongoing development and refresher training to ensure competence, compliance and service continuity. Support the training of clinical teams in relation to cleaning responsibilities, in line with the National Standards of Healthcare Cleanliness. Conduct return to work discussions and attendance support processes, including phased returns, risk assessments, Occupational Health referrals and staff wellbeing initiatives, liaising with the Deputy Support Services Manager as appropriate. Arrange and conduct stages of the management of attendance process in accordance with Trust policy and procedures. Support recruitment activities using the Trusts e recruitment system (Trac), including shortlisting, coordination of interviews and onboarding processes, in line with Trust guidance. Undertake regular one to one meetings and development reviews with Domestic Supervisors and domestic/deep clean staff to support performance, development and engagement. 3. Quality, Audit and Infection Prevention Monitor cleaning standards through routine audits, inspections and electronic monitoring systems, working in partnership with Infection Prevention and Control teams. Ensure timely follow up of audit actions and contribute to service improvements where standards fall below expected levels. Undertake regular ward and departmental visits to monitor quality, address concerns and provide operational support. Contribute to investigations and responses to complaints, incidents and feedback related to cleaning services, identifying learning opportunities and supporting continuous improvement.
4. Communication and Partnership Working Act as a point of contact for operational cleaning matters, responding to enquiries in a professional, courteous and timely manner. Communicate effectively with colleagues, patients, visitors and stakeholders to support service delivery and maintain positive working relationships. Work collaboratively with clinical and non clinical teams to support cleaning requirements and service developments. Hold service meetings, toolbox talks and staff briefings to ensure clear communication, engagement and awareness.
5. Training, Competence and Development Deliver or support operational training, including the safe use of cleaning equipment, products and approved cleaning procedures. Provide guidance and advice to staff to support safe working practices, health and safety compliance and service quality. Maintain own knowledge, skills and mandatory training requirements, including the effective use of IT and electronic monitoring systems relevant to the role.
6. Health, Safety and Risk Management Ensure staff work in compliance with health and safety legislation, COSHH requirements and local risk assessments. Support the reporting, investigation and follow up of incidents and near misses using Trust reporting systems. Promote a culture of safety and take appropriate action to address unsafe practices or environments, escalating concerns where required.
7. Resources and Stock Control Support the management of stock control, ordering and distribution of cleaning consumables and equipment. Ensure equipment is used correctly, maintained appropriately and reported promptly for repair or servicing as required. Contribute to the accurate completion and maintenance of departmental records, including rotas, stock usage and operational documentation.
8. Operational DecisionMaking and Escalation Work within Trust and departmental policies, procedures and guidelines, using initiative to resolve routine operational issues. Escalate complex, sensitive or high risk issues to the Deputy Support Services Manager as appropriate.
9. Work Environment and Demands The role requires regular movement across clinical and nonclinical areas of the Trust. The post holder may occasionally work in demanding environments, including checking or supporting cleaning in patient care areas requiring enhanced infection prevention measures, and in areas with higher levels of dust or pest issues, supported by appropriate training and controls. Physical activity may include demonstrating cleaning techniques, operating cleaning equipment and handling supplies. The role involves managing competing priorities and responding to interruptions within a busy operational environment.
