Job summary
We are seeking experienced and GMC-registered Consultant Dermatologists to support delivery of additional Dermatology outpatient activity at University Hospitals Coventry and Warwickshire NHS Trust. This service has been established to increase patient access, reduce waiting times, and support delivery of both Two Week Wait (2WW) and General Dermatology clinics.
This is an excellent opportunity for consultants looking to undertake additional work within a well-supported outpatient environment.
Main duties of the job
Conduct General Dermatology and Two Week Wait (2WW) outpatient consultations.Assess, diagnose and formulate treatment plans for referred patients.Request and review appropriate investigations.Provide patient-centred management plans and follow-up recommendations.Dictate and complete clinic correspondence using the Trust's electronic dictation system.Review and action pathology and diagnostic results in accordance with Trust KPIs.Complete clinical outcomes and RTT statuses within Trust systems.Escalate urgent concerns and refer patients appropriately to specialist pathways.Participate in governance, incident reporting and service quality requirements.Maintain high standards of documentation and clinical record keeping

Duties and Responsibilities
Deliver consultant-led outpatient dermatology clinics for both General Dermatology and Two Week Wait (2WW) skin cancer referrals. Assess, diagnose and manage a broad range of skin, hair and nail conditions in adult patients. Develop and implement appropriate treatment plans in accordance with national guidance and local UHCW clinical pathways. Diagnose, investigate and manage suspected skin cancers and other complex dermatological conditions. Undertake dermatological procedures including skin biopsies, lesion excisions, cryotherapy and minor operative procedures where required. Request and interpret diagnostic investigations, including histopathology and laboratory results, and ensure timely follow-up of findings. Review and action urgent and routine results within agreed service timescales and Trust requirements. Determine appropriate patient outcomes including discharge, follow-up appointments, PIFU pathways, further investigations and onward referrals. Complete electronic patient outcomes and maintain accurate clinical records using Trust systems including CRRS and M*Modal. Dictate, review and authorise clinic correspondence within agreed turnaround times, ensuring high-quality communication with referring clinicians and patients. Work collaboratively with specialist nurses, pathology services, oncology teams, primary care and other multidisciplinary colleagues to ensure effective patient care. Provide patients with clear information regarding diagnosis, treatment options, risks, prognosis and ongoing management plans. Ensure compliance with UHCW clinical governance, infection prevention, safeguarding, consent and patient safety requirements. Participate in audit, quality improvement and service development initiatives to support continuous improvement in dermatology services. Respond appropriately to incidents, complaints and clinical governance matters in accordance with Trust policies and procedures Maintain professional registration, appraisal and continuing professional development in line with GMC requirements and best practice standards. Provide clinical leadership and specialist advice to nursing staff and other healthcare professionals where required.
Person Specification
Experience Essential
Full GMC registration with licence to practise. Entry on the GMC Specialist Register for Dermatology (or within six months of CCT). Evidence of continued professional development. Significant experience managing a broad range of dermatological conditions. Experience delivering outpatient dermatology services independently. Excellent communication and clinical documentation skills. Valid medical indemnity insurance.
