Main duties of the job As an Occupational Therapist at Avonfield Neurological Centre, you'll become an essential part of a multidisciplinary team dedicated to improving the lives of those with neurological conditions. You'll be responsible for setting realistic goals, developing intervention plans with residents and carers, and monitoring progress. Using your clinical expertise, you'll facilitate rehabilitation and condition management to enhance the quality of life. Your role includes performing neurological assessments and interventions, facilitating cognitive rehabilitation, and ensuring high-quality care. A key part of your job will involve liaising with community colleagues to plan complex discharges and enhance patient outcomes. Additionally, you're expected to supervise support staff and students. You will be HCPC registered, passionate about working with people with neurological conditions to support their rehabilitation, condition management and maximise their quality of life.
You’ll work in partnership with residents and carers to set realistic goals and develop collaborative intervention plans, with regular reviews to monitor progress and adapt.
Working as a member of the transdisciplinary team, you’ll ensure that high quality individualised care is delivered, which ensures safety and a commitment to promoting recovery, wellbeing, and maximising independence/quality of life.
You will be familiar with the use of outcome measures such as FIM/FAM, CRS-R, WHIM and TOMS, and have experience in managing a designated caseload using knowledge of relevant Occupational Therapy theory. You’ll also have practical experience of completing assessments, planning, implementing evidence-based Occupational Therapy interventions, and evaluating outcomes aligned to care plans.
With a strong emphasis on teamwork, you’ll receive support from a regional network of healthcare professionals and enjoy access to a wide variety of training courses to support you reaching your career goals.
As an Occupational Therapist you will be:
Completing neurological assessments, treatment planning and interventions Rehabilitation interventions to improve function and independence with ADLs Cognitive assessment/rehabilitation Using of therapeutic handling skills Assessing environment and equipment needs including specialist seating Identifying ongoing needs whilst maximising quality of life Liaising with community colleagues to facilitate complex discharge planning Evaluating outcomes aligned to care plans Supervising Occupational Therapy support staff and students Implementing and develop evidence-based therapeutic activities Where you will be working

Join the full multi-disciplinary team at Avonfield – the recently renovated 19-bed specialised neurological centre - providing specialist rehabilitation and care for people with neurological conditions and acquired brain injuries.
Avonfield is a homely and welcoming environment with several communal areas for socialising, set within tranquil grounds. The service offers assessment, treatment, and active rehabilitation programmes to maximise autonomy and independence, with the team working to reduce the impacts of neuro-disability associated with the neurological condition or acquired brain injury.
