Salary: HCC H4 Scale Point 6* actual salary £12,132 per annum including outer fringe allowance, based on 20 hours per week, term time only

We are seeking to appoint a passionate and imaginative individual to help instil a love of reading within our popular and well-resourced Learning Resources Centre (LRC). The LRC is in constant use throughout the day and the centre is well supported by a fantastic team of student helpers. The successful candidate will be able to build positive professional relationships with students and supervise the learning environment and resources accordingly.
The post holder will work closely with our Learning Resources Centre Manager and be responsible for helping to organise library and information resources to support teaching and learning throughout the school, facilitate independent learning and promote and reward reading for pleasure. The post holder will help to promote the love of reading and research (including digital) and will be expected to support library-based events and activities.
Main responsibilities will include:
Providing guidance and assistance to students and staff on information retrieval and reading materials to encourage the development of independent learnersPromoting an atmosphere conducive to reading and learning and supervising silent Sixth Form private studySupervising LRC users during the day and after school, ensuring that the centre is an effective learning space at all times and challenging poor behaviour when requiredMaintaining and recording accurately the use of library resources, including digitalEffective use of library management softwareAssisting with maintaining a good range of fiction for all reading abilities and ages to help promote literacyInspiring students to read widelyEngaging with national and international events (e.g. World Book Day, International Women’s Day, Anti-Bullying Week, Black History Season, Pride, etc.) and promoting awareness and interest in these events via the LRC resourcesContribute to the selection of resources to encourage diversity, whilst promoting an awareness of world, local, social & health issuesHelping with organising and training the team of voluntary student helpers to support the day-to-day running of the LRCProvide support with IT equipment and printerRegister ad-hoc students as and when requiredAny other duties as deemed reasonable and necessary by the Learning Resources Centre Manager The successful candidate will:
Possess GCSE or equivalent qualifications in Maths and English at 4-9 (A*-C)Have experience in a similar roleBe computer literate with strong MS Office skillsHave a strong knowledge and love of children’s literatureBe compassionate and caring with an understanding of students with SENHave the skills and confidence to be able to instruct groups of young people and manage behaviourBe resilient and assertive when requiredPromote self-esteem and confidence and help students to become emotionally healthyHave the ability to communicate effectively with all members of the school community and remain calm when under pressureBe positive and flexible, with excellent organisational skills and the ability to use your initiativeBe able to adapt and react within a fast-paced environment, managing conflicting prioritiesHave excellent attention to detail, with the ability to work accurately and independentlyBe able to solve problems, exercise responsible judgement when appropriate and make decisionsUnderstand the need for high levels of confidentiality, discretion and integrity in the school environmentHave the ability to work individually and as part of a team within a busy environmentBe an enthusiastic, committed and ambitious team player, open to learning and professional developmentBe a strong presence with a hardworking and proactive approachKnowledge of Arbor and Oliver is desirable but not essential as training can be provided.
