About this role

POSITION SUMMARY

Plans, organizes, and coordinates a community recreation program for Older Adult including cultural arts, physical activities, health activities, and special interest classes and programs. The Older Adult Program Facilitator works under the general supervision of the Director of Recreation and Leisure Services.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

• Plans, organizes, and implements activities and programs for the United Senior Citizens of Upper St. Clair.

• Processes applications for transportation programs for senior citizens.

• Plans, purchases, and supervises the preparations and serving of weekly lunches and supervises the cleanup of facilities after each activity.

• Oversees recruitment of new members and maintains all records pertaining to membership.

• Organizes and implements a variety of day trips.

• Organizes and supervises all meetings, classes, and events as required.

• Coordinates the needs and interests of Older Adults with the Township personnel, budget, and facilities.

• Assists with individual and group concerns.

• Responds to inquiries regarding programs.

QUALIFICATIONS

Necessary Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

• Knowledge of older adult recreation philosophy, planning, and administration.

• Knowledge of the equipment, facilities, and techniques utilized in an older adult recreation program.

• Skill in the operation of the equipment listed below; skill in performing First Aid and CPR.

• Ability to develop, coordinate, and direct varied activities involved in an older adult recreation and leisure program; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, participants, and others; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to understand the special needs of and work effectively with Older Adult; ability to organize meals for large groups.

• Food protection manager certification within 90 days of employment.

Education and Experience

• A combination of experience and education will be considered including a bachelor’s degree in gerontology, family and consumer sciences , social work, or a related field with one to two (1-2) years of related experience, an associate’s degree in gerontology, family and consumer sciences , social work, or a similar field with three to five (3-5) years of related experience, or equivalent work experience preferably related to working with older adults .

EQUIPMENT USED

• Personal computer, including word processing software; calculator; copy and fax machine; phone; public address system; and all kitchen equipment and utensils used in the preparation of meals.

• The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus.
