About the role | Mō te tūranga:
Our Core Lab Department is currently looking for dedicated, enthusiastic and competent Medical Laboratory Scientist. This is a permanent, full-time position with an 80-hour fortnight.
You will be willing to learn new skills, work well alone and as part of a team. Extremely well-organised, detail-oriented, and friendly with a strong focus on quality and customer service. The successful applicant must have a high degree of accuracy and be self-sufficient to excel in this role.
Key responsibilities include:
• Barcoding, receipting, and preparing specimens as they arrive at the laboratory.
• Entering patient and test details accurately into the system.
• Answering telephones and handling enquiries professionally.
• Work well under pressure and manage competing priorities
• Demonstrate strong problem-solving skills and a high degree of accuracy
• Be willing to learn new skills and adapt to changing procedures
• Work effectively both independently and as part of a team
• Maintain a friendly, customer-focused approach at all times
• Show initiative and be self-sufficient in your day-to-day tasks

To be successful in this role you will need:
• The ability to work in a methodical manner adhering to strict quality procedure guidelines.
• A team focus with initiative, excellent interpersonal and communication skills, and possess the ability to work in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment.
• Excellent attention to detail, with good record-keeping skills.
• The ability to work independently and able to participate in on-call and out-of-hour shifts as per the roster provided.
• Registration with the Medical Sciences Council of New Zealand and a current Annual Practicing Certificate.
• Eligibility to work in New Zealand.
