Title: Associate Director, Energy Management & Sustainability Location: Upper East Side; Brooklyn; Lower East Side; Midtown; West Side Org Unit: Energy Management Work Days: Weekdays and some weekends Weekly Hours: 40.00 Exemption Status: Exempt Salary Range: $125,000.00 - $148,000.00 *As required under NYC Human Rights Law Int 1208-2018 - Salary range for this role when Hired for NYC Offices Position Summary Oversees the daily operations and long-term planning for energy demand, decarbonization, and driving strategic energy conservation initiatives across the institution. Job Responsibilities Lead and motivate a team focused on energy management, carbon reduction, sustainability initiatives, and regulatory compliance across the main campus and the outlying WCM real estate portfolio. Identify and formalize institutional campus energy reduction and sustainability goals. Effectively communicate such goals to the WCM community including senior leadership and department sustainability stakeholders. Formalize goals within an action plan identifying focus areas that will help with the pathway to compliance. Drive projects that support these goals as well as work directly with other department stakeholders to help them remain on course. Report on goals and progress semi-annually. Chair an energy and sustainability council which reviews progress made by the team and other department stakeholders with respect to the institutional goals and action plan. Responsible for setting target goals for campus energy reduction. Oversees development of measurement metrics and utility meter dashboards for real time tracking and reporting of campus energy usage on all utility systems. Provide subject expertise around energy, carbon reduction, and sustainability measures. Provide input on institutional / departmental standards, capital project design, consultant selection, regulatory response, employee requests, community requests. Explore avenues for available grant funding and rebate programs to aid in offsetting costs for energy and sustainable initiatives. Establish detailed project budgets incorporating all funding sources as well as associated ROIs. Oversee programs focused on moving the energy and sustainability measures forward including speaker series, WCM community training, and technical operations team improvements. Stay current with regulations as it applies to energy management and sustainability requirements. Evaluate and roll out technologies that support WCM objectives. Education Bachelor's Degree in related field Experience Degree in engineering, environmental science, or another related field Minimum of 10 years of relevant experience with energy and sustainability projects Field related licenses and certifications a plus Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Demonstrated ability to understand complex interrelationships between multiple utility systems. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Excellent interpersonal and communication (verbal and written) skills. Excellent communication, planning, organizing and problem solving skills Experience with effectively managing and developing budgets. Solid organizational skills and detail oriented. Licenses and Certifications Working Conditions/Physical Demands Position at times requires working in a non-office environment where there are some physical discomforts such as noise, dust, heat, fumes, and other elements which are continuously present. Periodic work in animal research areas, work in machine rooms, crawl spaces, areas where there are odors from maintenance products, leaks, dust, dark areas, dampness, areas with restricted access, and noise.
