Reporting to the Head of Energy, Materials and Infrastructure (EMI), CBAU; this position undertakes customer marketing and origination of energy, materials and infrastructure transactions. The role will be responsible for origination, deal structuring, negotiation, credit-analysis, execution, documentation and the credit quality of the EMI portfolio. As a key member within CBAU, the role provides guidance, mentoring and capability development across the team to maximise origination and strengthen SMBC’s market presence. This position will be responsible for the following: Manage and grow the EMI client portfolio to achieve successful financial outcomes which support the CBAU and EMI budget including cross sell through Team and cross Product Collaboration. Build and maintain strong working relationships with clients and external stakeholders, ensuring responsive day-to-day service. Identify opportunities to deepen client relationships and expand business across the portfolio. Manage and develop direct reports, including completing performance reviews, development plans and providing day to day guidance Delivering and overseeing detailed credit analysis and financial analysis of corporate banking customers and potential deals. Working with financial models and modelling cash flows and financial information in order to undertake financial analysis. Oversee and assist in the preparation of credit papers to seek credit approval for transactions from SMBC Credit Department. Oversee preparation and execution of transaction documentation in line with approved credit terms and SMBC standards. There will also be administrative functions related to the maintenance of client accounts over a variety of SMBC banking products. To succeed in this role you will have: 7+ years of relevant experience in either a relationship or analytical function, ideally within a Bank or Financial Institution in a deal origination team. Experience in project finance is preferred but not essential. Candidates with experience across the Energy, Materials and Infrastructure sectors, strong relationship management skills, and exposure to transaction origination will be viewed favourably. An awareness of ESG considerations and sustainability trends is also desirable. Ability to manage client relationships and support transaction execution. Awareness and understanding of Institutional Banking financial products and services. High level ability to understand and interpret financial statements and conduct financial modelling. Advanced understanding of credit processes within a bank and related administration. Strong level of numeracy and financial analysis skills. Influencing skills both in writing through presenting a persuasive argument and verbally. Ability to condense complex issues into a readable format in report writing or through other communications.
