Location: 25 Fielding - Hard Rock Canada Manager: Technical Publications Supervisor Division: Parts and Service Shift: 5x2 Travel Requirements: Up to 10% Job Overview The Technical Writer is responsible for independently developing, maintaining, and publishing complete technical publications supporting KMT Hard Rock equipment. This role produces structured technical documentation that enables safe installation, operation, maintenance, and repair of equipment across global aftermarket environments. This role ensures documentation is technically accurate, clearly structured, compliant with KMT standards, and aligned with product release schedules and engineering change activities. Through effective collaboration with engineering, production, and service teams, this role contributes directly to technician efficiency, equipment uptime, regulatory compliance, and overall aftermarket performance. Key Job Responsibilities Independently develop and maintain complete technical publications aligned with engineering inputs and product release timelines. Interpret engineering drawings, schematics, and specifications to produce accurate, service-ready documentation. Collaborate with engineering, production, and service teams to gather, validate, and clarify technical information. Apply structured authoring principles, metadata, and reuse strategies to improve consistency and efficiency. Ensure documentation meets standards for clarity, terminology, compliance, and usability. Perform thorough self-review to ensure accuracy and readiness prior to peer review. Identify and resolve routine documentation inconsistencies and escalate complex issues as needed. Coordinate publishing outputs and translation/localization activities. Independently prioritize and coordinate assigned deliverables, balancing routine deadlines and dependencies with minimal supervision. Recommend improvements to documentation, workflows, and usability. Qualifications/Requirements Technical certification, diploma, degree, or equivalent learning in technical communication, engineering technology, trades, manufacturing, service, quality, or a related technical field. Equivalent combinations of education, technical training, documentation experience, and practical technical exposure will be considered. Two to five years of progressive experience in technical documentation, structured authoring, technical validation, or cross-functional documentation development within industrial or heavy equipment environments. Equivalent demonstrated capability may be considered in lieu of years of experience. Exposure to mining, heavy equipment, manufacturing, industrial, service, parts, training, or field environments is considered an asset. Exposure to XML/DITA, CCMS, CMS, CAD, illustration, publishing, or translation/localization tools is considered an asset. Ability to independently develop complete technical, procedural, or service-oriented documentation from multiple source inputs. Ability to interpret and synthesize drawings, specifications, procedures, stakeholder input, and other source data to produce clear and usable content. Working technical aptitude with the ability to build product knowledge quickly and apply it to documentation decisions. Ability to apply standards, terminology, structured content practices, and documentation tools consistently with minimal supervision. Strong written, visual, and verbal communication skills to gather information, validate assumptions, and explain technical content clearly. Strong quality mindset with the ability to identify and resolve routine inconsistencies and escalate complex technical or data issues. Ability to prioritize and coordinate multiple assigned deliverables, balance routine deadlines and dependencies, and communicate risks to quality or timelines. Continuous improvement mindset with ability to suggest practical improvements to documentation usability, workflow, or consistency. Compensation Range At Komatsu, base pay is just one part of a comprehensive total compensation package designed to support and reward our employees. For this role, the annual base compensation range is $70,000 CAD to $85,000 CAD. The final offer will be determined based on several factors, including the candidates' skills, experience, qualifications, and the position location.
