About this role
About our group: Seagate products help more people store, share, and protect their valuable digital content. With 97% of the world’s information being stored on hard drives, the rapid growth of digital data makes Seagate more important every day. Seagate is where the future is read and written, with continuous innovation proving that a hard drive is not “Seagate – 40 Years of Data Storage Innovation . Find out how we are shaping a new era of storage as we craft the datasphere. As an industry leader, Seagate provides unique career opportunities to be part of today’s major technology shifts. They can be found around the globe and on our website . The Seagate Derry / Londonderry Manufacturing site has been open for 30 years this year. We have over 1750 people working in our facility which is among the most advanced in the world, in the design, development, and volume manufacturing of recording heads. These recording heads write information onto and read information from the recording disc, within the data storage device. In the role of Electronic Design/Modelling Engineer, you will be working within the Advanced Technology Research and Development team. This team is part of the broader Recording Head Organisation. Partnering with the worldwide wafer development and test / characterization teams our responsibility is to develop and the recording heads for future generations of Hard Disk drives. About the role - you will: • Design and optimize recording-head layouts that enable improved electrical high frequency performance. • Collaborate with an established multidisciplinary team to develop next-generation recording head architectures for future data storage technologies. • Develop innovative recording-head solutions that support future increases in areal density. • Ensure consistent and accurate modelling of recording-head performance through correlation of simulation results with electrical, RF, and system-level measurements. • Assess how recording-head technology could improve overall writer and reader signal-to-noise ratio. • Collaborate with wafer-development teams to adapt layouts for product integration. • Analyse component, fixture and integrated-head measurements to separate intrinsic circuit performance from other effects. • Coordinate technical activity with external research and design partners, ensuring that requirements, models, design reviews and deliverables remain aligned. About you: • An effective communicator with strong presentation and writing skills. • A collaborative team player who thrives in cross-functional environments. • Proactive and confident in setting direction and making timely decisions. • Passionate about technology and driven by the challenge of pushing boundaries. • Innovative, with a willingness to contribute ideas and solutions that advance our technology roadmap. • Capable of working constructively with external research organisations, design houses, foundries and technology suppliers. Your experience includes: • A strong grounding in analogue, mixed-signal or RF electronic design and modelling. • Designing systems with amplifiers, high-speed interfaces, sensor electronics or related circuit architectures. • Using electronic design and simulation tools such as Cadence, Spectre, ADS, Synopsys, SPICE, MATLAB, COMSOL or equivalent platforms. • Developing circuit, behavioural or system-level models and correlating those models with measured data. • Familiarity with semiconductor design flows, including schematic design, layout review, parasitic extraction and process-voltage-temperature analysis. • An ability to communicate effectively across circuit-design, device, manufacturing, integration and test disciplines. You might also have: • A PhD or postgraduate qualification in Electronic Engineering, Microelectronics, Electrical Engineering, Applied Physics or a related discipline. • Additional experience, in the areas of opto-electronics, photonics or integrated circuit design/modelling. • Experience analysing experimental data and using tools such as Python, MATLAB, SQL or equivalent methods to support engineering decisions. • Higher level academic qualifications e.g. Masters, PhD, would be considered an advantage.
