The Aviation Security Service (AvSec), part of the Civil Aviation Authority of New Zealand (CAA), helps protect New Zealand's aviation system and the people who rely on it every day. As an Explosive Detector Dog (EDD) Handler , you'll work alongside a highly trained detector dog to identify and deter security threats across airport environments and support national security operations. This is more than a dog handling role. It is a frontline operational position requiring sound judgement, professionalism, resilience, and a strong commitment to public safety. About the Role Working as part of a specialist team, you'll conduct explosive detection searches across airport environments, including aircraft, baggage, cargo, facilities, vehicles, and other security-sensitive areas. You may also be required to support national security operations and deploy throughout New Zealand at short notice. We're looking for the right mindset, capability, and potential to succeed. Before You Apply To be eligible, you must: Be medically and physically fit. Hold a full, clean New Zealand Driver Licence. Be a New Zealand citizen or permanent resident. Be available for rostered shifts, including nights, weekends and public holidays. Be able to respond to operational call-outs at short notice. Have suitable accommodation for an operational detector dog, including a fully fenced residential property. Reside within the required travel distance of the airport.
